I assume this new technology is in the States as well? Do you think this new technology is here to stay or a fad? I personally think it's just a fad, seriously who could be bothered to watch a movie or something on TV with glasses.

    Thoughts?

this technology is here to stay for sure.. These days more and more movies are coming out on 3D. Won't you get surprise while watching a soccer match and feeling that the ball is being hit towards you... Its really gonna change the definition of watching tv !!

I don't like 3d personally. It's too immersive for my taste. I watch tv, movies, when I want to relax. I don't want to feel like I'm part of the action.

I think the answer should be a composite: The technology is definitely here to stay; it's mature and *cough* cost-effective. But it's going to take a really long time to be everywhere. Don't expect 3D to be the next LCD flatscreen or VHS kind of success. I could venture a timeline of about a decade before it's everywhere. Or let's say, before there's enough content in 3D for it to become compelling. Because getting a 3D TV just to watch about a dozen movies TOTAL is ludicrous.

Current 3D is still in it's infancy and needs more content available to have a major impact on mass market.
Should see some growth over the next 18 months when price point of acceptance is met.

I think it will stay popular. I can't wait till they broadcast sporting events in 3D.

3D Movies in the cinemas, are great. 3D tvs are crap, we own a 75 inch flatscreen 3D tv which cost over $8,500 AU. I don't think it's worth it.

Well the trend in the box office shows that people can't be bothered by 3d features especially if the movie itself is terrible. I think the same applies for tv, who wants to watch a show where you already know that something will jump out at you all the time.

I agree with you it is going to fad since who is going to watch tv with wearing glasses, for a while when you buy a new TV for few days definitely they will watch but after some time who have that time and patience to ware a glass and watch, and while small children are at home it becomes very difficult to manage children and glasses at one time.

Technology is good and hope it will work, but one has to think how long it will , because if technology has found a TV with 3D glasses then they can create a TV with 3D without 3D glasses that time definitely it would work because if a person has a practice of wearing his own glasses then how can he wear these 3D glasses and watch for a long time.
