3d interactive model

Was wondering how one would go about creating a 3-dimensional object that an end-user can rotate 360* and be able to select specific points on the object. For example lets say a globe that can be rotated and someone could click on the different country's and a seperate window would pop up....

Its open source and its good, but difficult to learn how to use.
