3d Cut out object

    hello all, ive tried looking for this but cant find anything, basically in illustrator i want to know, say you have a sphere or square or any shape, then you have some letters i.e. NP , is it and how do you make it so it cuts out these words from the 3d object, i hope its possible, thanks for any help, neil.:)

    I'm not sure how to subtract the outline of letters from a sphere but it is possible from other shapes then you can extrude them.

    What type of 3d shapes do you mean exactly?

    Like fake 3d 'web2.0' shiny orb things, or like you used the extrude/ rotate tool?

    I guess either way I would recommend opening up the 'Pathfinder' pallet. It's either under 'window' or 'view' I can't remember. Anyway, do that. A box opens with various ways in which you can merge shapes together. Mess around with that, you might be able to get what you need...
