Actually there have been checks and balances. The Republicans have a VERY SMALL margin in the house/senate. As a result, several bills which have required a 2/3'rds majority have failed.

Keep in mind that democraps had congress for nearly 60 years. What was accomplished? Just take a look at what a democratic governor and mayor have done for New Orleans...

No, only the typical poser Repulicans like McCain have swayed on the waffle iron. But then again, he's been doing that for years.

I doubt there will be much change at all in either direction, with the exception of the governor races.

pulling together and giving carte blanche are two different things.

Your messiah broke the law, deal with it.

And when you say representatives do you mean Congressmen or Senators? Cuz if it's Senators that is indeed good news (since there are only 100), not good enough of course. But if it's only Congressmen (since there are 435) I'd say it's a non story.

As opposed to George W. Bush (R- Oil Companies) ?

Yeah, that whole not starting wars for oil thing is going to lead us to burn in hell.

Not really, you need 2/3s to impeach. But he'd definatly be a lame duck and would actually have to co-operate for a change. The only thing it would really do would give the U.S. a 2 year head start on cleaning up the mess left by the Republicans. That's the way it always is here in Canada too, Conservatives screw up everything and then when they get voted out they blame Liberals who have to slash and cut just to clean up the mess.

I wouldn't hold my breath tho, the house is a long shot and the best polls for the senate say 50-50 which means Cheney would have a lot more work to do.
