All the script will do is parse the xml and create a multi-submit form. Then the next script just has to see which have checkboxes and add them to the queue, send to paypal or whatever. Could even be better, one paypal transaction instead of many.
Most directories that I see come from a limited number of software houses. So, they pick up the idea, release an upgrade and it's around the place in a jiffy. I've written a scraper for picking up new sites for my directory. It's not much work, really.
Yep, I can see that the category could even be left off the XML and would definately need to be manually verified. A selector is built into most submission forms, now, so it's no different.
The software download sites have adopted the pad_gen with no major problems. The success of any directory will depend on the speed that it gets big. Getting big means making it easy for webmasters. This will do it.

honey: ru7.org a Paid directory, $4.95 for the listing.
fastpaths.com Paid Directory, $5 for the listing.

I added up ru7.org and fastpaths.com is already in my free directory list (it is still a free directory submission by the way. I just submitted a site. No charge.).

Most free directories have a hard time keeping with subs with out having to go and choice which category to put them in.

I agree that is one issues on a directory being successful.

Thanks Bob. Fastpaths, I recently acquired that directory and I am in the process of converting it to paid and that was the reason I told it's a paid directory to you. :)
    Thanks for adding ru7.org !!

honey: Ok just let me know when you convert it over.
naveen_in: Thanks! I agree that Dan's list is a quality list. My list is larger than other of them and I show alot more information such as the number of IBL on G/Y/M, number of documents in the index of G/Y/M, Alexa ranking. I will be adding shortly where they are in DMOZ and dir.Yahoo and I am also looking into a number of other specs that I can provide where it can give directories ranking.

I am looking at coming out with a tool that will scan a directory and tell the ratio of categories to sites and a number of other ways sites can be rated. I won't be doing this with free directories as they are free. But the plan is to do this with Pay directoires as people need to be abit more picky with them.

onedollar: Your in. I would suggest you put some filler sites in you directory. I don't like adding up directoires that only have categories and no sites.

    Bob,

I have an absolutely free website directory with seo friendly urls and no redirect bs. Just nice clean links. I'd be honored to be on your list and also would deep link your list appropriately here

Hi Bob - 123kidzarea.com is telling me this "A reciprocal link is required. You must specify what page you will be placing a reciprocal link on before submitting." but it's on your free, non-recip list. Thanks for maintaining this resource!

Edit and another one: A1Directory Search. Your list states that you have to register, which is still true but now they're hitting me with this: "Payment is require to add a site in directory. " it's $25 for a lifetime.

And another one: abizdirectory.com "To complete your submission you will need to pay a $10.00 administration fee."

Can you tell i'm working my way right down your list? I love it - so well organized. I'll mention it in my blog with a link next time I post, I really am greatful for your site :)

And addyourlinks.net is parked and for sale :)

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for including our paid directory into your list. We have made several enhancements in our directory since its launch.

We currently have over 1000 categories and are constantly adding more. Suggestions for more categories and sub-categories are welcome.

We are now seeing an increase in the number of submissions to our directory. Currently, we have 243 pages indexed by Google

We are offering 2 types of paid inclusion in our directory :
    1) Paid Listing - 1$ for life-time permanent links
    2) Featured Listings - 2$ for life-time permanent links

Deep links are accepted too and multiple links from the same site can be submitted too. There is no limit on the number of categories a url can be submitted to as long as the site content is relevant to the listing.

Can you please update our listing in your page with this latest info whenever you update the page next time ?

    Thanks

    J.P: www.seocompany.ca/directory/free-web-directories.html?search=directoryhi.com
    onedollar: www.seocompany.ca/directory/web-directories.html?search=www.onedollar.co.in updated.
Roze: Thanks for the heads up! I changed that one. www.seocompany.ca/directory/reciprocal-web-directories.html?search=123kidzarea.com
liwei: Nice design. I don't have a niche page right now so I will have to pass on your nice directory.
mdvaldosta: I put in the freewebsitedirectory.com but it seems the other one you offered is not general. www.seocompany.ca/directory/free-web-directories.html?search=freewebdirectory.org
naveen_in: http://www.directory-submission.net/directory-list.htm is a good list thanks. I just added it up to my list of lists. www.seocompany.ca/directory/top-web-directories.html #18
donttrustthisposter: Please redesign your template. It hurt my eyes : ) Here is your listing. www.seocompany.ca/directory/free-web-directories.html?search=free-website-directory.com

Hi Bob, I submitted my paid directory via your site but in case you missed it it's www.categorizedweb.com. The site has standard and premium listings as well as deep links.

    Cheers.
