3500 more clicks after new layout

So this is a little strange. I've been averaging about 1000-1700 clicks a day from one of my sites...Yesterday I changed my home page's layout..just the home page. Added 1 more adsense block to the top. All the other pages are the same. Total clicks are almost at 5000 fo the day. If this was a regular day i would probably think someone is just clicking on my ads but after doing a change a day before could this actually be such a difference?

Should i contact adsense anyways and confirm?

Congratulations. This is very big jump. Can you at least share the layout with a screenshot and just delete the part of the site which will compromise you.

It didnt really earn much. I get like .02 cents a click i think..lol with almost 5000 clicks i earned $120 and some change..lol. Pretty sad where i have a site than can get 800 clicks and make that same amount.

Anyways I emailed google about this so we'll see what they say.

The thing that you have to do is find out how much traffic your homepage is getting. If it is not getting that much or the CTR seems rather high once you work it out from the extra amount of clicks that your are getting compared to the amount of traffic on the homepage = the new CTR, then you need to worry.

Also, some sites do get low CTR, but sometimes I have found that even though you do get some clicks that don't count, Google still includes the clicks in the stats. So the more clicks that you have that are invalid the lower your average earnings will be per click as the invalid clicks are still displayed in the stats but don't count for any of the earnings.

That might be the reason becouse you are getting only 2 cents/click.

Well i emailed google and got a reply today. They said that unfortunately, due to the proprietary nature of our technology, we're not able to disclose any specific details about the clicks on the google ads on your site.

They also set that they will continue monitoring it and in the future they might adjust my payment for any days during which invalid clicks occurred.

ummmm okay? this really didnt help me with anything...lol. So what do i do now? just sit and watch what happens. It seems like today's clicks are going to be the same. Maybe it is just the layout. Should i change back to my old one and see if clicks drop down? if they do then that means that this is valid and no one is sitting there just clicking my ads.

Yep just site back, I have always reccommended to people to change their layout every 4 or 5 months, unless the layout is perfect, myself and people I know have had huge CRT increase, congrats btw :).

So the traffic is the same, and all you've done is changed your layout? That's probably it. Check your referral logs to see if your visitors are finding your site naturally. Usually when there is a major bump in clicks/earnings, Adsense will audit your traffic to make sure everything is on the up and up.

Just out of interest did you have a bad CTR before?
Though you'd trippled your clicks, if you have changed from say 0.5% CTR to 1.5% the change in layout could easily explain this. (If you've gone from 10% to 30% then maybe you should keep an eye on your stats).
