Hi guys, I'm looking for a logo for an upcoming hip hop/rap artist XYZ: http://xyztunez.com/ Winner will receive $35 Paypal, and contest will only last 72 hours. XYZ only..(don't include 'tunez' in the logo) Client would like an hourglass to somehow be used in the logo. Maybe as a background.. Colors: Red, Blue, Green Lets get creative! Please try to upload logo with current site as background so we can see how it looks on the site. Here are some competitors examples:
Sorry guys, but we're disappointed in what the contest section has turned into. I remember a year ago I would get 10+ great entries and now its hard to get 3 good ones. Client isn't liking any of these enough to spend $35 on them..too bad digitalpoint had to start this 'like' system because I'm sure it's the reason the contest section has declined
Sorry man, but a $35 contest only getting 6 entries and only 3 of them are somewhat decent just doesn't cut it. I remember when we would get 10-15 entries and 1 would usually be along the lines of what we are looking for. Client didn't feel any of these are on the right path...
because 10-15 entries means up to 14 people working hard without earning, with only person 15 getting *some* sort of payment. If its 2 hours working on a logo for a comp, and they are the second best, well thats alot of time wasted that could have been spent actually earning. If you have someone going into 4 comps a day, doing 2 hours on each logo and does that for a week and always comes, 2nd or 3rd best, then really, they HAVE to stop doing comps as they cant go a whole week without paying food or bills. Part of me is against crowd sourcing, as it does devalue the work done by the pros. i mean, 10-15 people working for free in the hopes of getting $35 doesnt make sense, and it shows that we expect high quality work for really, nothing. For a better result, find an awesome artist who participated in a similar comp ($50-$100) - ask them if your $35 budget is ok, give them your ideas and requirements and ask them to do a quick sketch before starting and before your client pays to see if you like the rough concept. If they are GUARANTEED to receive payment for their time, you will get a decent result. I think this thread (among others) will actually reduce the number of people who participate in comps, simply as this is not the first time when a whole stack of people have created logos and none of them were paid.
If the 'client' wants something super uber amazing to be created FOR 35$, then why do they even bother posting contest in here? Contact a professional artist and voila..Plus, this is the second time I see THE SAME contest in here (obviosly there was no winner in the previous one aswell). The 'colleague' above me is right - we are not forune tellers to know what to improve without any feeeback provided.
I am glad you mentioned it. I didnt realise the op was a scammer until I read your post. Turns out he has done at least 3 contests now with now winner. I have said it elsewhere on this forum. When people start a contest, they should prepay the prize money into the dp system, that way the contestants are guaranteed that there is actual prize money. People with a few posts shouldnt be starting contests anyway. You realise the forum account your using right now is only 1 month old. please provide a list of your other digital point forum accounts. I am keen to see if you ever paid anyone for a contest.
@matt_62 ...far from a scammer, I've spent around $500 in the contest section over the past 5 years..my previous account was banned when i complained about this 'LIKE' system and being able to hold contests. You can check out my old account if you want- glgotting. I've done alot of business with Razi3l and krainzall...they've probably combined to win about 10 of my contests. After I was banned I still need logos...so I made a new account and became a PAYING member here at digitalpoint. I pay $25/month right now just to be able to post contests. If I'm going to be a paying customer here then I need to see at least 10 entries per contest or there's no point. All I'm saying is I've noticed the quality and quantity severely go down..I even raised the payout of the contest the second time and got LESS entries..sad because I used to get GREAT logos for $20-40..here's a quick list of some clients sites using DP contest logos: fancytuning.com videostomp3.org my16live.com stockmarketadvantage.com gottmedia.com lil-wayne.us newdrakemusic.com nickiminajhq.com newjustinbieber.com improvinghouses.com freefunnypics.net funnyredneckjokes.com ...etc Now...I'm going to post a new contest for FantasyG.com logo..example will be provided and I will GUARANTEE A WINNER, if you want to enter it! Thanks!
I have been taking part in the rat race earilier, but not anymore. I guess anyone who can afford it, will not take part in these contests as a provider. You hopefully do realize people spend a lot of time for MAYBE getting a little bit of money. And depending on which country they are from, winning also means writing a formal invoice, which costs even more time. Lower your expectations and you will be fine.
