$35 Logo Competition (Solar Energy / Alt Energy Clock)

Discussion in 'Design Contests' started by staffjam, Oct 11, 2010.

    Total Prize: $35
Design: Clock that has an alternative energy theme
Contest End: Thursday 14th October at 18:00 GMT
Important Note: I always pay – even if I don’t get what I want – look at the 30+ previous contests I’ve run.
Entries: Do NOT PM me your entries – Please post ALL entries on this thread.

There may also be more than one winner – if I see lots of great designs that will suit – I will award the 1st prize up to 5 times. (So 5 different people could win $35)

The design will need to be alternative energy related – so Solar Energy, Wind energy, tidal, etc…. But it must look very professional.

The design will need to be fresh and funky yet also professional looking, as it will be placed on sites from social to business and politics.
It will become a widget – so please include oilprice.com somewhere on the design – if you put a square around the clock which is probably best (as it give you more chance to add a theme) – it can go under the clock or possibly have a little part under the square. – What I mean buy this is to have something similar to the Get Widget sign at the bottom of this clock: http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/magic-tree-clock
But it must be MUCH more subtle.

Looking forward to seeing your designs.

    Hi,

i went for the windmill theme as i think it could be a nice widget - the windmill turns and powers the clock (i can send you the flash preview movie or gif via mail because I can't attach it here :()

    Feedback appreciated,

    Thank you,

    Bucko

And another concept, including digital time (font is free for commercial use). Again the windmill can be animated to turn so it looks like it powers the clock:)

    feedback appreciated,

    thank you,

Thanks for your entries guys - here is some feedback.

hassan - it's nice and colourful - but it's not really an alt energy theme - also it's difficult to see that it is a clock.

Bucko - I prefer your lower design - but can it be astandard clock - as you appear to have 24 hours on the clock - it should only be a 12 hr clock.
It also needs a little bit more to liven it up a bit as it is alt energy related - but it may be difficult for people to get it.

Looking forward to seeing more designs.

    hi,

here is another concept with solar energy

W/H ratio of one clock is 260/160 px, colors can be changed from elegant to funky :D

    Feedback appreciated.

    Thank you,

Hi Guys - i just wanted to let you know i am extending this competition to Saturday – so there is another 48 hours to go.
    Here is some feedback:

Bucko – i quite like the design on the top left – is there any way you can make it a bit more funky as it’s quite a push to say it’s alternative energy related – if you can do this i think it will look quite nice.

Watari – That’s quite nice – but it’s a bit big and could do with some colour – also the solar panels don’t really look like solar panels – any ideas? As i think this could be nice.

Looking forward to seeing more designs.

    Hello,

i wasn't sure what you ment with more funky so I did a totally new design :)
still solar and more eyecatching in my opinion :D

In the meanwhile I have a question about your other contests - would you like the designs for different contests to be similar? or would you like some diversity?

    Feedback appreciated,

    Thank you,

    Bucko

Bucko =- thanks for the entry - but it is still very basic and it doesn't have an alt energy feel to me. I have been PM'd by other designers - so i am keeping this open for a few more days.

    Here's my 1st go at it :

I know you said solar or alt. energy clock however if you check the net most of the alt energy clocks have a tagline line mentioning that its a solar, water etc powered clock and it almost looks normal. Another thing is size 130x130 makes it really difficult to show what you want along with the clock. I have another concept will work on that once you give feedback for this one.

    :)

    Hi Guys,

    Here’s some feedback:

SarahMclaughlan – It’s quite a nice design – clean and professional looking – sadly it just doesn’t feel alternative energy to me.

Chewysmom – I actually quite like this – it doesn’t really have much to do with alternative energy – but it is quite an interesting design. Could you make the get this widget much smaller though.

Brainsurgeon – This is quite nice – but not really alternative energy. Still it could be interesting to see a few changes. Could you move the get widget to outside the box, and then the space this was in bring up – but have oilprice.com in the bottom left hand corner – but it must be small and subtle though, and it will need to be removed from the center. Please do post your other idea.

Revision for the 1st one :

    Here's my second concept :

The clock has to be made vertical instead of horizontal to fit the small size and still look good.

    Feedback appreciated.

    Here's some feedback.

Sarah - thanks for making the revision - sadly it's just not what i'm after.

brainsurgeon - the flower one looks quite good - but i'm not interested in the second one.

Chewysmom - thanks for the revision - but the Get Widget buttom should be "much" smaller.
