Aloha, I’m holding this contest for a light-up (LED) t-shirt design. The client is a light-up t-shirt company based in Hawaii. They require a simple light-up design that appeals to tourists/visitors to Hawaii. An LED or electro-luminescent panel lights-up in various colors in response to music or noise in the wearer’s environment. Different colors can be used for the LED panel – however, rainbow colors and rasta colors are preferred. The light-up panel needs to be as simple and clear as possible for the manufacturer – the client would like to see different designs, but has suggested using one of the following design ideas that will light-up: - · Hawaiian Islands (geographic) · ‘808’ (which is the Hawaii area code) · ‘HI’ (abbreviation for the state of Hawaii) · ‘Aloha’ (the famous Hawaiian greeting) Some existing light-up shirt examples:- The contest will run for 48 hours or until a clear winner is chosen. The winner will need to provide their design in Vector and PSD format, as this design will be printed. All questions and submissions must be submitted through the thread. We will not take any PM-ed designs or questions. The winning designer will receive $35, paid through paypal. ***The client may decide to pick more than one design Please let me know in the thread if you have any questions.
@pehulz thanks for your submission. The abbreviation should be HI not Hi. I don't think the negative space would work for this, but the '808' looks good - maybe using different colors would make it look even better (see example image). Overall, a good first attempt.
Hi, I have some ideas about the design. All elements are designed to be led lights except the black color. I think that the island and the boat would make great effect because they are black and will stand still while everything around flashes to the beat/noise. I have also used some part of Hawaiian folklore, that's the upper row of triangles. The lower row is, what else, waves!
@remus94 - your first submission is probably your best. I also like you 808 concept, but perhaps in a different font? something that is bold and strong, rather than italic. Perhaps you could show us how the 'HI' would look on a LED panel (where the cells light up - like in the example). The client also likes your inclusion of the islands but would also like to see how the islands would look on its own (i.e - just the islands and nothing else). You're on the right track - good work! @mvg777 - thanks for your submission. The borders won't really work for the light-up panel. However, we do like your use of the word 'ALOHA'. This is a word all tourist associate with Hawaii. If you could develop this concept a little more, with how it would look on an LED panel, we would be interested. With LED panels, the more simple and clear the design - the better. @pehulz - thanks for your revisions. Your second submission is your best so far, but maybe you could change the colors to be more striking and bold? I would like to see what you could do with an islands design, or a design with the word 'ALOHA'. @BOB Designs - very interesting design. I like the plam trees and the word 'ALOHA', but the mask/face is not usually strongly associated with Hawaii, even though there are Tikis here. Maybe you could make the word 'ALOHA' more visible by making it bigger?
@pehulz - thanks for your submissions. @remus94 - I like these revisions - especially the 1st, 2nd and 4th. The only problem we might encounter is that usually the light will pulse-up or go in a certain direction in a certain order of colors.
Aloha everyone! As you can see, this contest has not ended because he client wishes to fin more than one design. We would like to have a design with the word 'ALOHA' (all capital letters) similar to what @mvg777 and @BOB Designs have been working on. @mvg777 - I like the concept. Could you try using the colors from the first example I have shared in the brief? Feel free to have the word 'ALOHA' just by itself, or with a simple flower or palm tree. @BOB Designs - your latest design is very striking - however we would like something more simple (less palm trees) that will look good lighting-up to music. (Remember: The design will only be fully visible in a very loud or noisy environment).
@cosmotyler - thanks for joining the contest. I like your designs but please see the feedback I have just given in the post above. Thankyou. To everyone: These t-shirts will be sold to tourists. As we want the design to be simple, the colors of the design need to look 'cool' and look good together. We would like a design that will appeal to both men and women. There are plenty of color combinations you can find by googling 'light-up/LED shirts'. Thankyou!
I've used the colors from the brief. I've also split every letter in half vertically and it resulted with 10 columns. Every design is considered from a production aspect, as well. I'm trying to design something that could be done with led lights, I don't only draw.
