$35 Header Contest for Ebook Reader Site - 24 Hour

    I'm revamping the following website:

    http://ebookreadersresource.com

I need a new header that needs to be exactly 975 x 150 pixels.

The header should include the site name as currently shown: eBookReadersResource.com

and the tagline: Your Guide to Today's Hottest eBook Readers

Right now the current header has a screenshot of two ebook readers. The new header DOES NOT have to have screenshots of any ebook readers. In fact, I'd prefer that it doesn't as these devices change so rapidly I'd have to have it updated regularly.

As for colors, anything goes. I'm literally going to design the site around the header.

The current header is very old and "tired" and I just need something new and fresh:)

    Good luck!

    Travis

P.S. I am working on the site as I'm running this contest so if you visit the site and the header is gone, here it is:

    Wenusz:

Thanks for the entry but if I can be completely honest, this isn't at all what I had in mind - but let me give you some specific feedback. I don't like the crooked letters for the domain name. I also don't like the graphics above and below the domain name. I also don't like the tagline as it's very hard to read and the font just isn't "right." When it comes to the text elements of this header (domain name and tagline), I like fairly straight forward text - like you see on the current header. It's very simple, clean, and easy to read at a glance. I also like how the tagline fits nicely below the domain name.

At this point you're probably wondering why I just don't stick with the current header...lol. What I don't like about the current header are the screenshots of the two ebook readers and the solid black background.

At any rate, thanks for the entry but it's not going to work.

Thanks for the entry but I would appreciate it if all entries could be out in the public. I'll give you feedback here but if you revise it or do another one, please submit it publicly.

My feedback is that header is way too "loud" with too many elements (double lines for the border, shadows behind the fonts, different font types, etc.). And yet despite the "loudness" it is very plain as there is nothing but a white background and the text.

    Thanks,

    Travis

This one isn't bad but still not quite what I'm looking for. Here's what I like about it...

The background - although I would like to see the blue background a little bit darker
The font of the domain name and tagline look good too.

What I don't like (as I mentioned at the beginning of this contest) are the screenshots of the ebook readers. If you're going to do that, I would prefer a super closeup of just the screen of an ebook reader (or readers) - if that makes any sense - sort of like you see on my current header. The reason being is that these ebook readers are constantly being updated so it doesn't make sense to say the site is the guide to the hottest ebook readers if I have screenshots of old models (like my header has now - lol). On the other hand, you almost need some graphical element to balance the header out - I just don't know what that is.

I have to be honest...at first I didn't like this but after looking at it for a while, I actually do:) It's my favorite one so far. If there was anything I had to say in terms of feedback is I wonder if maybe the font for the tagline should be a different color - or maybe make the color of the domain name a different color??? How about making the domain name black?

After looking at this concept some more another idea came to mind. Since most of these ebook readers are charcoal black with a grayish screen and black font...what if you took this same concept and instead made it look like a part of an ebook reader??? Like change the green background to a charcoal gray and then the stuff behind the domain name and tagline a gray color (like the color of the screens on these e-ink ebook readers) and then have the font just be black. You can see an ebook reader here:

    http://www.zath.co.uk/amazon-kindle-3-review/

I like this concept the best so far but if someone wants to take a crack at my new idea, go for it!

Nice design! You're making this tough on me now:p

I'd like to see the gray/silver shaded areas along the top of the header and just above the blue strip a little darker - but not too dark.

I don't like all caps for the tagline. I'd like to see it so that just the first letter of each word is in caps (i.e. Your Guide To Today's Hottest eBook Readers) - note that the "e" in ebook readers is actually a small letter while the "B" is capitalized. And then maybe bold the font for the tagline?? Not sure on the bolding.

    Good entry!

    Travis

P.S. I don't like the one with white stripes.

This is actually exactly what I had in mind with my "new idea" but after seeing it I'm not such a fan. Sorry:(

I actually like both of these but I'd probably lean towards the gray one (the second one). The one thing I'd like to see with this concept is to move the whole domain name and tagline element down so that the left, right, and bottom border of this element wraps around the top as well - and so that there is the dark charcoal background between the top of this element and the top of the header itself. Right now the top of this element just ends abruptly along the top of the header - like it's chopped off - or runs off the header.

My favorites so far are these two designs and the one by Pheonix89 - with Pheonix89 in the lead. It's getting late here so I'm signing off for the night. I'll be back online in the morning to review any last minute entries and to make my final decision. I started this contest around 10 a.m. so I'll let this contest run the full 24 hours. Unless something dramatically different (and good) gets entered in this contest between now and when I sign back on in the morning, it will be between Pheonix89 and area5172.

    Thanks everyone!

    Travis

Thanks for the entry. Please see the comments I have left for the designs just a minute ago. Unless you can come up with something dramatically different than my two favorite entries so far, I should be good to go - but I appreciate you taking the time to put together an entry.
