hi i have a site, say domain.com. i created a shop on domain.com/shop. i decided i'd like to have the shop as my homepage. can i put 301 on index.htm to redirect to domain.com/shop? should i do seo for domain.com? will google treat domain.com/shop as my homepage? is it ok to do it? any ideas? suggestions? thanks lenny
If you want to show your shop as home page why not you setup your shop in root directory instead of shop directory? I would like to suggest you to set your online shop in root directory so that your home page is domain.com and its your shop too.
Google taken final redirecting url domain.com/shop, but domain page rank and back links are not transfered... Search engine treat as a new page for that one...lose already ranking keyword for domain page url also. Need to do seo for fresh, then only ranking for this particular page for a specific keywords... Redirecting 301 is one format and another one canonical link.. for more information about canonical url http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/02/specify-your-canonical.html Hope clear...
Go to your .htaccess, it's a hidden file. Paste this in (with your url). RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^the-website-guide.com RewriteRule (.*) http://www.the-website-guide.com/$1 [R=301,L] And this is the full guide on my site (no promotion, just helping) - http://www.the-website-guide.com/change-non-www-to-www.html
