Hello all, Almost 10 days back I redirected 100+ of my running websites pages as I changed category of my posts and hence the permalink changed. The old link is pointing to new one using 301 redirects. My problem is that I see 2 copies of my pages in index. Some of those pages got PR3-4 and my home page was also good PR. Now when I redirected all those pages will the new pages also get the rankings and PR and will it effect my websites rankings. Did I made a big mistake in redirecting most of my pages at a time? Aman
The new pages should get the rank by the next PR update (whenever that would be). I had to get this done for the last company I worked for, don't worry - it will resolve all of the PR when the time comes! Also, the best thing you can do is redirect an entire site, page by page, at once.
Hello, You did the correct thing by redirecting all the pages at the same time. You must understand that although your visitors are redirected instantly, google will take some time before removing the old URLs from the index and attributing the previous "page value" to the new location. It might be in the next pagerank update, or even sooner, as the SERPS are not only affected by pagerank and sites go up and down in SERPS everyday.
Thanks for your comments. I know page rank dosen't effect SERPS but still it feels good to have nice page rank. Will wait for next update. But why why has my traffic fallen. Especially from google I was getting 3000+ visits a day. And now only 1500 visits a day.
