My Thought: When 301 redirection is applied from URL 1 to URL 2, after some time Google will replace URL 1 with URL 2 in rankings. What I Saw: When 301 redirection is applied from URL 1 to URL 2, for some time both the URLs start ranking for the same keyword occupying 2 positions and pointing to the same page/content. Your Thoughts?
Had to do 301 redirects and within 1 week google just changed URL1 to URL2. Unfortunately, it took much longer for yahoo but eventually had the same result.
Both URLs will rank in results but when user clicks on redirecting URL he will be redirected to main domain. And, Google takes approx 6 months to shift everything (PageRank, backlinks, SERP ranking, link juice etc.) to redirected domain. Make sure you do page to page 301 redirect to avoid future problems.
Yeah both might rank. In fact is it not better for you as if old your old page is redirected properly you are occupying two listings.
Agreed. By showing both the listings is Google not violating its own strategy of providing fresh content to the users as both the listings are pointing to the same content & page in this case.
