I took my redirect off. Google doesn't respect redirects very well. I replaced it with a page that says "no content here, go to the new site instead" and I've had quite a major traffic boost to the new site since then. The old site is still ranking irritatingly high (it had some phrases jump from #200+ to #4 for content it doesn't even have) but with the placeholder page there, I get 1000 or so click throughs a day from it. Far better situation than it was when I had the redirect. Would never use redirects again after this experience, they seem to be extremely bad for SEO.
