301 redirecting subdomains to sub-directories: any problem for SEO?

    Hi all,

Maybe you can help me clarifying this doubt.
If I create a subdmain in my main domain (xxx.domain.com) and simply redirect (301 permanent redirection) it to domain.com/xxx does it have any negative implication in terms of SEO?
Will it be seen by search engine as duplicate content?

Hence, if I use xxx.domain.com for external linking (since some directories only accept top level links) will it have the same value as I would have if I used domain.com/xxx ?
    Any other problems related?

I am asking this because I am thinking to have tranlactions for my site, and put them in directories each one. And then use subdmains and redirection.

Thanks a lot for your precious help.

Best regards and have a nice 2008!

You wouldn't get hit for duplicate content because the 301 will cause the search engines to only index the page to which users are being redirected. However, it will mean that your content at xxx.domain.com will not get indexed.
