301 Redirect with many sites = penalization?

I have about 10 sites which I no longer look after/care about and only have a few which I do.

Rather than sell them, do you think it would be a good idea to 301 redirect them to my main site?

They are in the same niche, so the vistitors wouldnt be unhappy, but would google be?

The sites recieve about 200 hits/day so it would really boost my main sites hits, but would google penalize me?

Would they see it as a bit wierd that 10 sites now redirect to one? Could i get banned?

    Thanks,

    Josh

no ...Google won't penalize you much .However , you will get the traffic for maximum of 1 month . After that , the traffic will automatically be down .

When you say "much" do you mean that they may punish me?

Also, yeah traffic will drop, but it is still worth it.

i would be careful, i just 301'd about 5 sites to one of mine and it tanked the next day.

they were also in the same niche. The ones I 301'd though, had been parked for awhile so that may have been an additional factor.

It may also be an update or something and was just a coincidence. But the timing was too close.

    So do more research first.

    thanks

By tanked do you mean dropped in the rankings by loads? Hopefully that's just a coincidence with the dance and everything.

I will continue to do research then.

Yes, basically i have dropped 100 places for everything and some I am not ranking for at all.

I am convinced that it is a penalty, as I am not even ranking for my name with out the .com.

Ouch. I have removed them all and hopefully it will release me. But some of what i have read, says it will be a few months.

So I recommend not doing it.

Ouch - I have done a little more research and it appears that it is not a good idea.

I think I will leave it for now then :p

Hopefully you will get your SERPs back asap!

Well, they are giving me traffic, so I dont think that is the problem.

The problem I was wondering, is if I have too many 301 redirects to one sites, will google punish me.

And so far I think the consensus is that they will if you abuse the 301 redirect.
