301 redirect to new url for active site?

    Hello,

I recently purchased a website that is fairly active. The problem is, I don't like the domain name, and it doesn't rank for anything on the SE anyhow.

I want to do a 301 to a new url with a better name and keep the site contents but change the banner to represent the domain name change.

Do you guys think I will lose much if any of the links / traffic I have? I apologize if this is a bit out of place, but I couldn't think of a better section to place it.

    Thanks!

you could place your thread on Apache sub forum section which you can find here

redirect 301 will tell search engine that the old site you had is already moved to your new site so it will not affect your PR, traffic, etc :)
