Do 301 redirects make sense when a website is redesigned and urls changed even though the domain remained the same? Thanks in advance.
The 301 redirects will tell Google to transfer their indexing data, so the new site will eventually take over on the ranking. This will happen as Google re-crawls the website and updates it's data. It is known that a 301 redirect will lose a little ranking for you, so is not as good as people directly finding the pages. You may end up performing a little worse. You may also want to look into who is linking to that older website and try and get them to update their links. The 301 will also resolve any of those duplication problems.
