Hi, I bought a domain - http://www.webprovince.com/ about 10 days ago. My previous domain - mec.mine.nu - was indexed by google. I use a permanent redirect to the new domain for clients requesting my site prefixed with the old domain name. Thought google would index my new domain fast since I am already indexed with the old domain, but I guess I was wrong. I have even more inbound with the new domain than with the old domain, but still I don't get indexed by google. MSN have indexed my site with the new domain, and have been replacing the old domain with the new in their index. Should it take this long when you do a 301 redirect? Am I doing something wrong or should I just wait? Been posting in many forums, but it seems noone really can tell how googlebot will act. Some even suggest a 302 redirect for awhile, and when starting to get indexed, change it to a 301. Other say this would be the absolute worst thing I could do. Been thinking of dropping my old domain (not many pages indexed anyway)to be sure google isn't penalising me for dublicate content. What should I do?
I've been trying to transfer a domain for months. Google is horrible with 301s. Patience is all you can hold on to. Unfortunately there is no "safe" way to force a redirect.
Hi, Your new domain already existed last year. I suspect that it has been banned by Google. If this is the case, you should first make sure your site is "clean" and then submit a re-inclusion request to Google. Jean-Luc
I had a look awhile back myself at the waybackmachine and saw that my domain had a previous owner. However, I could not see anything that would have got the domain banned. Also, the prevous owner is now fastname.no, which is a kind of famous Registrar in Norway. Of course I cannot be sure it is not banned, but I don't think it is likely. I have sent a mail to google to find out, but their answers usually take long time. Does anyone know a way to see if a domain is banned? I have heard that the grayed out Page Rank in google toolbar is a myth, besides it is not gray when visiting my site, it is white. Should I do a reinclusion anyway? Or could this make it take even longer time to get indexed if the domain is not banned?
Search for http://www.webprovince.com/ with Google and compare it with a search for http://www.this-domain-name-does-not-exist.com/. You will notice that Google is trying to help people looking for the other domain, but not those who look for your site. This is an indication that your site is probably banned. Jean-Luc
Belive you could be right, Jean-Luc, and since domains are so cheap these days I bought by self a new one, webpelican.com. Made some searches in most search engines and made sure waybackmashine didn't show that it had a previous owner this time. Hope this works... Thanks for the replies
