301 redirect made PR 0

    After making my old blog give a 301 redirect (permanent redirect) to my new site, its PR dropped straight to 0. I've also noticed a friend who redirected his old skin site to his new skin site (so the content was very related) using the same method also had his PR drop to 0. I've read that Google accepts 301 redirects fine, so why have we both been penalised?

    The oddest thing is, although my PR has gone down, I've been appearing a lot higher in Google results.

    I'm simply using the following:

    header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
    header("Location: *removed*");

    Also, couldn't this be used maliciously? For example by 301 redirecting a poor, low PR site to a competitor.

    I think you will see the receiving site bump up once all the content has been verified. You are already seeing an increase in rating via position.

    What's your old url and new url? I want to check it and try to find the reasons.

    I removed the 301 redirect and replaced it with a link and my PR is back.

    I guess Google didn't like it because my old site's content was completely unrelated to my new site. But I still think something like this could be used maliciously.

    Try redirecting it Via .htaccess
    Drop of PR happens sometime, you will need to wait for some time to get the PR back, by any chance are you using FF??

    301 redirect is not bad at all . Problem can be with 302 (temprorary) redirect .
