I did 301 redirect for several sites.
Usually it took about 2-4 weeks to complete all process.
We didn't lose our positions in SE

Well i think mine is still sorting out, any pages on my old website you go to read 301 redirect then it redirect to the new website thats what the header reads.

I'm wondering if maybe my rankings are gone because its still sorting everything out :).

I have seen matt cutts advising peoples to use 301, when moving, so don't worry and be patient hope everything will be returned to normal.

    Goodluck

When I moved off blogspot I had put up my domain and redirected all the pages to the new pages with .htaccess. (Or else blogspot would redirect to a 404)
It was tedious but google updated all the Urls in the serps for my pages.
    I don't think I suffered any penalties.
