301 Redirect Domain

I put this question in the Google Forum because I just care about Google Traffic.

Let's say you nurture a domain name, then you start a new site and you 301 redirect it to another site.

About 6 months later, you want to use the original domain to something else (another words..."un-doing" the redirect). Will this domain name still have age? The register will not change. A 301 is suppose to be a "permanent" move. That is why I am not sure.

This was kind of hard to explain, but I hope you understand.
