Hello, I have decided to move away from my current web designer and host and go with Word Press and a completely new web host. I am going to use a new brand specific domain name (my company name) instead of my current keyword domain. I want to work on brand recognition and move away from any customer disconnect with my brand. I know I need to do some 301 re-directs but does my new web host or old web host handle this (or both)? Also, I wanted to remove all of my domains from my old web host and transfer to the new host. If we perform the transfer, will my 'new' host be able to then handle the 301 re-directs? I am confused to no end about this. Thanks for any help!, Dave
Yes, you have to deal with htaccess to do this. Having said that, if your site is not huge its not that big of a deal really. It is also possible to append your wordpress URLS to reflect what was there originally. There are also some pretty nifty plugins to take care of anything you may have missed in adding rewrites. hope that helps, its pretty easy really and a good idea with the brand notions. That is always the way to go. Nigel
Hello Nigel, Any recommendations for the plug in? Also, how would a plug in work for the new WP site if the old site is not WP and is hosted with another company? Thanks for the help! Dave
I think web hosting people cannot redirect all your old domains to new domains, developer can do this , place the 301 redirect in the master page and it gets permanent redirect from old domain to new domain.
