Dreamhost will give also give you a stupidly high amount of space & bandwidth, see: http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html - If the site isn't that important I'd say they're pretty good - at least better then most of the run of the mill cPanel resellers.

Also, if you enter the code DPMAX* you'll get 1 years hosting for less than $20 with a free domain (renewed for free every year) and a 90 day money back guarantee - I doubt you'll find much better than that.

    * I've just created that code, it'll give you the maximum discount available for every plan dreamhost offer.

Take it from me, it's a big fat lie. I just hope that soon, these companies are taken to court for false advertising.

Its not false advertising. They've got a fair usage policy, along the lines of "You should probably be using your account for hosting websites", and once you've out grown them and start to use up the bandwidth / space they provide you'll probably want to upgrade anyway.

Here's a decent read from the lovely guys a dreamhost about overselling: http://blog.dreamhost.com/2006/05/18/the-truth-about-overselling/

You should probably also read this as well: http://blog.dreamhost.com/2006/08/01/anatomy-of-an-ongoing-disaster/

It is False advertising, because they cant afford to give an entire HD to someone for $9 plus a TB of bandwidth. I also have a fair usage policy, but if you sell space it must exist.

Sure, but they don't have to.

There's nothing wrong with overselling, and I don't think its false advertising, but if you're a host that isn't overselling you should be targeting different clients* i.e., ones that want quick servers with low server loads high availability and lots of burstable bandwidth - not people who don't mind when it takes a second or two to render a php page :)

    * I'd guess that the majority of users on here are the clients of oversellers.
