Hi So I see a nice text banner 300 x 250 ad on a website, it has 3 ads in it and the text is large and clear - great! So I go and add 1 to my site and what happens? they jam 4 ads in the box and now the text is tiny and the CTR for the ad drops (compared to the other ad I was using) I just don't understand , 3 ads in the box looks great and the CTR would be high, 4 ads makes the text tiny and ctr is low. I thought by now they would have realised this considering the amount of talent they have working at google. Maybe I just have to wait and leave the ad running for a while and it will change to 3 ads?? Any thoughts on this?
They'll slowly rotate displaying 4 ads to 3 ads from time to time...i know it hurts your CTR but it's basically out of our hands.
Yeah thanks for your replies. I was using the 336 x 280 block and CTR was good, but if you see some sites they use a 300 x 250 and they have 3 ads in it, the text is actually larger than the 336 x 280 which has 4 ads. I am fairly certain that a 300 x 250 block with 3 ads is probably the best performing ad block of all of them. 1) Because the Text is largest of all the ad blocks 2) Just 3 Ads you will be getting the higher paying publishers
Bro -> The ad numbers, i.e., 3 or 4 is randomly decided by Google. You can control the text size. You have a wide range to select -> Small, Medium, Large & Default.
Yeah I thought as much. I did have my default set to large, but I noticed that if you select large text within the individual ad setting it makes it even bigger. It's just a shame that we don't have a bit more control over the ad sizes, I am sure I could triple my CTR if I could.
You're wrong on that - but you do what you want, and ignore the people who've proved the large rectangle is the best paying adsense block - including Joel Comm, probably the world's leading expert on making money from adsense
Yes the large rectangle is the best paying adsense block that's what I said. What I am saying if you could limit the amount of ads appearing in a 300 x250 block to 3 ads max, the text would be larger and you would have a very high ctr, saying that if you could limit the ads appearing in a 336 x 280 block to 3 that would be even better. I am only saying this because I have monitored and watched earnings for a long time and I noticed for a while they did start to use 2 and 3 ads in the large rectangles and the ctr shot up, it's just a shame they max out the ads in these large rectangles, this causes the text to be too small and the CTR drops.
All I can say is you must have set your ads up differently to me, or you are using a different screen resolution e.g. http://www.make-money-today.net - large rectangle with 4 ads - fonts are plenty big enough I don't monitor ad blocks - I find out what the high earning pro's who make a good living from adsense say is the best - then I do what they do - and they all say "large rectangle" I hear what you're saying about 3 ads - but I'd rather have 4 ads, as that's 1 extra ad to tempt them to click We have to assume that money mad google knows how to squeeze the maximum amount of revenue out of an ad block - and that if 3 ads per block generated more revenue, then that's what we'd get all the time - not just when there are not enough advertisers to show 4 ads
I agree, web savvy people know how to tune out these ads, so size can work against you if you have three HUGE ads. People who look at them out of curiosity, or are attracted to something by impulse, will be more likely to click if they have more choices (more likelihood they see something they like). I find ads are like someone jumping up and down saying "look at me, look at me". Everyone is different, but I ignore such people unless they appear to be in pain, lol.
Kinda like the link bar. Sometimes my horizontal link bar has say 5 links, other times 3. Makes the site not look so hot, but nothing I can do about.
