Hi, BHV, thanks for joining in :) GOLDFISH is actually set to be a .com site even tho a .info would be cheaper. We tend to prefer .com's because they're easier for people to remember (in our experience). Do you prefer .info's for any particular reason? We've had a .info site back in the day but we found people had trouble remembering the address so we barely got any direct traffic. We favor easy to remember (and spell!) names, for the most part. Seems to help with SEO if they've got dashes in them when they're multiple word .com's such as "penny-saver-newspaper.com" versus "pennysavernewspaper.com".. Just our experience tho :)

Thanks, also for your compliments on Eye of Venus. I actually built that site as a first time Joomla experiment while I lived in a friend's house who only had dial-up internet access. Needless to say it was an exercise in masochism! :) People did seem to enjoy it, but I never put a serious effort into monetizing it since it was a group project. Right now it's parked at sedo.com so if you want to know what it used to look like you'd need to use Google's cache feature.

    Thanks!

Slow going today with lots of interruptions. We're focusing on research at this point and I've
got just about enough for the very first GOLDFISH article. That's it for today, another update in about 24 hours.

Got an e-mail like this just today regarding EyeOfVenus.com:

came from theonlinebrokerage**com (the ** stands for dot)

Found this a little fishy so I googled it.. According to the NamePros forum it's a scam. Just thought I'd let everyone know. Unfortunately doing business online can bring out the worst in people from time to time. The sale of EyeOfVenus.com would be putting money into the building of GOLDFISH so thankfully we avoided the problem by not replying to the e-mail. Apparently, how it works is the person who e-mailed tries to convince you to get the website "appraised" before they'll buy it for some huge amount of money (like $12,000.00).. then they take the appraisal money and never get back to you.

    Careful out there, guys! :)

    Day 7
    ----------

    May 4th, 2009

Well, here we are at the end of the first full week of this project. Today was hectic, in part
because finances have pushed Glittersoul into getting a job. You might recall that she was on her way to an interview on Day 1 and while this job is not with the same place, it's the same kind of work: a fast food restaurant. Or do they call that "casual dining" these days? Either way, it means she's going to have far less time to work on the project but our motto is "do what you gotta do" because this isn't the movies, it's real life and sometimes real life sucks. When we were first starting out on our road to making money with our own wits we tended to get discouraged by unfavorable (or even downright depressing) situations or events.

It's very difficult to handle unpleasant alterations to your ideal plans when you're an entrepreneur, especially when those alterations are demanded rather than being chosen
voluntarily. We've learned to roll with things and emphasize determined slogging towards the goal instead of wallowing in disappointment.

I spent half of today doing the rest of the research for the first GOLDFISH article and the other half getting it typed up. The article ended up far longer than I'd intended it to be, but I was striving for a thorough and interesting piece and I believe I've achieved that. Glittersoul has laid out more article topics for me so I'll start researching for the second GOLDFISH article in the morning. For now, I need a break!!

I'll be reporting back in just about 24 hours...

    Thanks for checking our thread!

    Day 9
    ---------

    May 7, 2009
    12:10am MST (Arizona)

Today proved to be far, FAR more productive than yesterday. GOLDFISH now has two full length articles ready to go up once we're to that stage in the project. I researched enough to make two articles, so I'll be putting the second together tomorrow. It's always good to research a few subjects simultaneously if they are related (yet distinctly different) topics. Cuts down on the time needed to accomplish everything you're striving to.

Calling it a night, but expect another update in about 24 hours!

maxearn: Actually, we have two up for sale. Neither I nor Glittersoul have ever used Sedo before so we're a bit green on selling domains that way. We've sold a few here on the DP forums, but EyeOfVenus and StoryCream were both actual websites. I'm not sure whether it was a brilliant idea or not, but we actually parked the domains there so the traffic could be monitored (by Sedo) for the users. Over 300 uniques have hit the sites, both together. We'll keep it updated on how well the sales progress

offevil: I am thinking of trying Sitepoint out, actually. In your experience is it one of the better sites for domain/website sales? Is it better for domains or whole sites? We've got a BIG site we plan to sell that should pay for way more than GOLDFISH, actually.. any tips? :)

PS - Thanks everyone for joining the conversation. We're very glad to have you, it helps us maintain motivation & enthusiasm

For the best rates for website..you should go to site point...many people buy websites in dp and then sell them at high prices at sitepoint...If you have a BIG website having BIG traffic or BIG revenue then you can easily get $xxxx from there...and for domains i might say i havent tried sitepoint...but i must say ...put an auction for domain there and start a thread in BST in dp here...and see if you got the price you wanted.... and one question--i never made a blog ..i just buy them ...so tell me right now you are just researching right ???you haven't done any post right??and do you research for keywords and then write ???are you going to publish all these articles to your blog..or you will submit them to other article websites..??
    regards

offevil: Those are great tips and I'm interested to see how that strategy works in domain/site sales. I'll give it a shot and report back here! May be a few weeks yet before everything's ready to go on that front.

As far as a blog, we're actually doing an old-fashioned standard website for GOLDFISH. We may do some blogs in the future, but we have found better results with static sites. Some say they don't get indexed as quickly but we've not found that to be a problem thus far. I'll be writing all the articles myself. GOLDFISH is based off a set of keywords that we think make logical sense together. We're aiming it towards satisfying the surfer as opposed to a pure SEO results-oriented approach. The articles themselves are based more around topics than keywords but if I think certain keywords could clarify not just the search but the reader's experience reading the article then I definitely make an effort to include them. We've not put any of the articles up right now, we're looking to have 25 articles for GOLDFISH before we take it live (not to mention site layout, etc). It's a long process, but one we feel most comfortable with at this point since it's familiar to us. And yes, we'll absolutely do some article marketing via other sites once GOLDFISH is live. :)

    Hope that clears things up!

eBusinessCorporate: You're spot on! I did enjoy reading that thread/blog to its completion and certainly derived inspiration from it and other similar threads/blogs over the years. No sense re-inventing the wheel when we can modify to suit our needs, eh? :)

    Multiforum Listing should help.

Also a suggestion. How about putting some sort Spread sheet, re: Goldfish
    in that you can put:

    1) Estimated time of completion for the project VS actual (tracking)
2)Orignal estimated cost of the project vs actual (updated daily/weekly etc)
    3) Orignal plan and how much and what kind tweeking being done to that.

Last but not least how much close or far off from your Orignal Plan and Why?

The idea is that all of us get a sort of live glimps into ur inner working (excluding) certain things u whish not to disclose or maybe for later time. So we all can learn from this.
