Hello, I have a website with 10 000 daily unique visitors (300 000 unique/month). My visitors see only 1 or 2 pages and never come back. It is a video site with young people (18-25). I have tried to set up a newsletter. And I have created a forum (Currently that don't work because the forum is empty). How can I keep them on my website ? And make them comeback everyday ?
The forum will help quite a bit once you get it populated and active. Maybe try a posting service to get it off of the ground.
always make changes in the contents of your website (E.g the videos ..) and so they would come back to fallow the new of your site best regards
My traffic is "viral" and I think this will last only few months (maybe 3 or 4). So It would be not so easy to create good content so the users come back
Where are the visitors coming from? If I had that I would be trying everything on the site to convert better. Most of my google traffic for APC puts them on the polls created, and they usually are not even looking for a poll just stuff about the key word. Still though I average over 6 pages from each one. Keep your site design simple so they intuitively know how to quickly find more videos. Lead them to more content, and suck them in.
You seem to be having a nevigational problem. Keep the main nevigational links clearly visible to the visitors.
I believe its a video viral page ain't it? What you can do is to create a commenting system on the video page and encourage your visitors to post a comment on the video or on anohter comment. This might work so try it out
First, I would measure the conversion of texts on my web-site, try to think about what your visitors are expected to see, more videos, more fun stuff, more some very specific information or something. Create a plan and put there 20-30 various texts you might wish to try (including "Tell your opinion...", "Visit cool video forum...", etc. After this you will have an idea about what people are interested (=are willing to click) and how it should sounds. Probably people are not willing to subscribe to newsletter, because due to audience all of them use RSS reader. I would try new google's feature to measure the conversion (have not tried it yet, so I'm not sure if it will find your needs).
It is a french website and I don't want to tell you the URL because I want to "duplicate it" in US if I manage to keep the visitors Here is an example of an other viral video (not from me) : http://www.kamini.fr http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kamini.fr This singer create a lot of "buzz" in september last year but didn't manage to keep the visitors come back again and again I am in a similar situation. A lot of traffic, but no good way to keep it... -Forum doesn't work : hard to find a topic good enough to make user post. -Newsletter doesn't work : only less than 0,01% sign up for the new video. -RSS will not work too : I think most of my users don't know how to use it. -Update with good content: don't work because it will take very long time to manage to create a good video. I am thinking about creating a "hot or not" clone or "Digg"-like website and push my visitors to this site. But maybe there is something better to do
I have just downloaded pligg (a digg like script). It looks easy to set up. I only need to create a logo and translate in my language (French). I will push my visitors to a new created site. If half of them, visit my "digg-like". I will have 5000 visitors and this should be enough to get auto generated content. I hope Do you think this can work ? or you may have a better idea ?
You need to find out what's attracting them to your site in the first place. Obviously, they come looking for something that they are not finding. So your job is to answer these two questions: 1. What is it they are looking for? 2. How can I provide it?
My ideas: I would suggest you to run a contest on your forum with great prizes. I believe this would help to grow the community of your forum, as many people would register in hope of winning a prize. Also, make some interesting forum posts in your forum, so that people read it, comment and want to talk about it. You can also hire someone to make some good posts in your forum. Good luck!
I think that the guys at Pligg are doing a fine job, but as you can tell, the idea of "Digg-like" is getting to be pretty generic, and I don't think the framework will be enough to retain visitors anymore than a blog does nowadays. I think it requires a unique idea, interesting perspective, and good "connection" with the readers. I myself am in a constant search for a good writer/blogger who can create a very unique connection with a reader. This is definitely a problem that any communication company faces. Just observe how all the networks try to copy American Idol, but there is something special about Simon (though everyone tries to copy him), that makes him a unique franchise. It could be a combination of what he says, how he looks, his facial expressions, how he talks, the way he looks at Paula, whatever. It is unique and it is what differentiates AI from all of the others. I think you have to just keep trying out new things, as I am. You seem to be way ahead of the game, so just keep experimenting. Good luck. Rich
Finnally, I have created my pligg website. And it is gaining progressly members Thanks for the contest suggestion. I will do one on my forum. Do you other idea to keep visitors in my networks (without always creating new fresh content ) ?
Perhaps they are using the wrong keywords to find your site so when they come they dont get what they want. Check your log and see how they reach your site so you serve them well.
Content is key, if you add useful content they can bookmark the page and return back more frequently even they can recommend to others.
