I have to disagree with your statement about monetizing too late. The biggest mistake people make is trying to monetize too soon. I don't even put ads on a site until it is established. Ads turn people off regardless of when they are implemented, but once your readership is established, you have a much greater chance of keeping them vs. turning them off and not getting them at all.

It's a lot easier to get people to link to a site that isn't commercial, in fact, a lot of authority educational sites won't link to sites running ads (commercial). Sure the Twitter community objects to ads (who doesn't) but do you really think one of the most successful starts on the web was stupid and "forgot" to put ads on their site when they started? No, they were smart. They did it to build their base knowing that the eventual introduction of ads would have a much better chance of succeeding AFTER they themselves were successful. Had they put ads on the site to begin with, they surely wouldn't have seen the growth and success they did.

    31. Making ridiculously long lists of things that are not really relevant to anything, boring to read, and serve no real marketing purpose.

I totally agree with mjewel. Monitization is about timing and purpose. You are not monitizing anything if you just fill it full of ads that do not fulfill a purpose and result in conversions.

I see so many Adsense Sites who over and over cram every possible block of Ad code into their sites because they think that is how you make money. And the same with affiliate links.
