$30 logo contest - is.gd

    Hi there,

I'm looking to get a logo designed for the site is.gd which I'm going to build into a URL shortening service (hence the short URL). Basically I want it to feature the name of the site (is.gd) as well as an extra tagline (for example "URL Shortener" or "Squash That URL!"). I had an idea that maybe some of the text could be getting squashed in a vice or something to emphasize the purpose of the site, but if you have any different ideas that's great too.

I don't have any particular size requirements or colour scheme since I haven't started work on the design side of the site yet and will probably base it around the logo, so use anything that looks good. I think I'd prefer a white background, and will probably go for something quite web 2.0 in style. I might want to change the tagline later, so if the winner can provide it in a format that leaves the text editable that's a big plus.

The contest will run for at least 48 hours (2 full days) after this post, if there's a logo I would really like to use after that time, I will declare a winner, otherwise I might extend it for a bit longer and will post to announce that. There will just be a single winner who will receive $30. I know there's some great talent on this forum and I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

    Good luck!

Ok so, when I was making this, I thought you meant the url name was ".gd" and not "is.gd" so here is my logo for ".gd" and if you like the design, I will make it say the right thing ;) also let me know if you want to see it in any different colors

Good entry, I like the style. You're correct that I want it to say "is.gd" and not just ".gd" however.

I'm interested to see what other people manage to design if anyone else fancies entering though. If yours is still among my favourites I'll PM you or something and ask you to post a corrected version.

Thanks for all the entries so far, a lot of them look great and I appreciate the time you've taken. My current favourites in overall style are DesignX's and Jboo14's entries, which have the kind of bold and colourful web 2.0 look that I'm after. As I originally stated I'll wait until 48 hours after my original post before picking a winner, so there's still more than a day to go however.

If anybody's feeling inventive, I wouldn't mind seeing some ideas with a few more graphics as well as the name and tagline, for example there could be some kind of 'crushing device' coming from both sides and compressing some of the text. Just an idea anyway :)

    Some more great entries!

I like the punchiness of Shart's design and that clean lettering of VictoriaAnn's. However at the moment I'm favouring the idea of a logo more in touch with the function of the site. I think Jboo's latest entry is getting towards that, with the URL shortening aspect being very clear from the logo. Although I like the idea of that one a lot though, there's something not quite 'right' about it... the colour scheme seems a little crazy, and I'm not sure it's quite 'clean' enough, I can't see it looking quite right when used as a logo at the top of a webpage.

There have been loads of great entries already anyway, thanks to everyone who's posted. It's a shame I'm going to have to pick just one winner, which will certainly be tough. The competition has another day or so to run anyway, so if anyone fancies designing new logos moving in this kinda direction (or has some unique and crazy great idea of their own ;) ) then go for it!

    Cheers guys.
