Contest $30 contest for a Logo for historical society

Hi there, I need a logo for a website dedicated to Francis Hutcheson. He was a philosopher who in the early 1700s was regarded as one of the founding fathers of the Scottish Enlightenment

The Enlightenment in Europe (also called the age of Reason) was a period when there was a movement towards scientific method and during that period there were a number of important breakthroughs.

The logo therefore should be something appropriately serious and reflect the importance of the Francis Hutcheson Institute.

It should include the text 'Francis Hutcheson Institute' perhaps in a copperplate style text or other which is contemporary of the time.

The logo also needs to have a bit of graphic design too, things to perhaps incorporate include (not all of them obviously): a microscope; a brain; scientific instruments; a scroll; books etc... or anything else you can think of which is related to 18th Century science and reason.

The one thing which probably should be incorporated in some way is an image of the bursting sun - That's a symbol which is synonymous with the enlightenment.

points to remember are science, symmetry, proportion, harmony.

I'll give plenty of feedback when suggestions come in. I hope that's enough info. I'll also hope to have a winner picked and chosen as soon as possible.

Ok, sorry for not replying sooner, the weekend got in the way. I've talked to my colleagues and we've come to a better understanding of what we want. Which is...

A bursting sun on a shield. In the bursting sun we'd like a microscope. Underneath should be Francis Hutcheson Institute.

Some of the designs above - notably the brain one - I personally like, but my colleagues consider it too modern looking. I think something which feels appropriately regal and important will win this contest, not the more modern looking ones.

Ok thanks for the responses. Some of the above are ok but there's no stand out winner for me yet. There's none of them which look really professional to me. Perhaps choosing some less harsh colours might be a good idea.
