Hope your not talking about mine because: 1 - the 'P' question mark was used before you. 2 - My '?' is slanted in order to make it look as close to a 'p' as possible. 3 - Background is dark because the border doesnt work on a white/light background.
Killaklown, urs looks the most like xpressions'. I've actually seen the one from xpressions before, so i think it's one they are re-using for this contest from their own back catalogue but yeah, urs is very similar. Don't mean to cause any problems for anyone, just stating my thoughts
Thank you, DaveyBoy. You are absolutely correct in your statement. It was originally used for the "inventorshelpforum.com" logo design contest a long while ago and I felt it was appropriate for this project. To use the question mark replacing the "P" is something that is reflected even in my own logo, so, it's not new. But to replace the letter with a lightbulb/questionmark was most certainly introduced by my design. And I must add, this most certainly isn't about the prize money, this is about ethics and respect! I'll just have to submit any future designs via pm to protect my intellectual property. Sad state of affairs.
Killaklown, have you looked at them both side by side? More than a coincidence surely? I'm not getting involved in the dispute from here on in, just wanted to show them both together.
Okay, I understand being upset by the similarities, however the purpose of this contest is to get the best possible logo for my site. xpressions, if you leverage your concept (which is not new btw, I googled around and a number of other sites using a similar concept) and won the contest, congratulations... however the idea alone is not enough to warrant a winning entry. If you're worried about the money, fine, I'll pay the winner $30, and you $15. I'm not worried about a few extra dollars here and there, however I do want the best possible logo... and if someone can take that vague idea and use it to make me a logo beyond your ability, it's for the betterment of the contest, and I'll compensate whoever participated.... however complaining about it like you are is just decremental to the contest itself.
Please provide links to the concept as you have indicated. And this is not complaining; this is standing up and protecting rights. I have been doing this long enough to know and understand that a contest holder is looking for the "best" logo design; it couldn't be any other way. On the dig, I do not need to justify my wins nor loses. As for "vague"; hardly! And as for my ability, I let my work speak for itself. On the "leverage" of my design, there is no justification for my efforts at this point. Respect of intellectual property is key here!
xpressions remember he can just choose to not pick you and pick someone else. Its every man for themself stop complaining... If the person who "copied" you did do that then settle it with him. The contest holder doesnt have to look at comments he looks at the pictures and decides which he likes the best.
Excuse me, but you are offering nothing. Plus, you defend the action because you seem to believe it's ok to lift designs and modify them so you can call them your own.....case in point which I have not addressed, but since you had something to say: My entry into for the Maugan's logo contest: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=561268&page=2 And your version for InterCredit: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=565544&page=2 It's a matter of ethics. Call it what you want. If you wish to address me, you can do it in private. Nothing else to add here.
Hey. This is a $30 logo. If you want to say those things, go somewhere where you are offered $200-300. As for the innovation with the p and the lightbulb, calm down with it. IMO yours is obviously the better one and came first with the idea which gives you a greater chance to win. Bit**ing about it only makes it worse.
Nsane: Wrong! This is not about the money; it's about the principal of "ETHICS" - no matter what the payout is.
I am not saying you look at the money. I am saying that the money the contestant is offering shows the type of contest this is. Just let it go, and you will probably win this. Don't use words like principal and ethics because it won't show anything.
Nsane: I appreciate what you are saying, however, the win for me is not winning a logo contest as much as the victory of fellow designers showing respect for the efforts of their peers whether they are professionals, students or hobbiests in the design field. You can't put a price tag on that. I will leave it at this and hopefully the point is made and can be dropped so the ch may proceed accordingly.
