$30+$20+$20+$50 = $120 company logos contest

    Hello,

    Site
    I need a logo for my business.
    The site is currently just a wordpress place holder: bizhobby.com

    I do like the background and would like to keep the color scheme in the future.

    Give it a soul
    A logo is meaningless by itself unless it is put into a context and sending a certain message.

    So, what do I want to do with this site? What is the message I want to send?

    I am creating a site that will provide pointers and help to people who want to start their own business. (Something I have done a year ago and wish I had all these answers back then). The site will also attract people and companies who can provide services to the start-up businesses. (Programming, Art, Law, etc.)

    When you start a company you don't have the advantage of working at a large corporation where you have all the resources at your fingertips. I think that people who start up their own business can themselves be a resource to each other in sort of a community based corporation like environment.

    (What I drew on my notepad, but again it is a very crappy art is to have Entrepreneurs, Tech, Management, Legal, Artist, Writers, etc. all in a cloud and connecting the the central which is my site)

    Specifics
    The logo should have the words BizHobby.

    Slogan is optional. Having the current slogan "Build the business you love!" underneath it would be nice, but keep in mind the slogan may change, so put it on a separate layer. I would prefer a slogan only so that I can judge whether the logo fits well with the rest of the site. Suggestions without the slogan are welcome as well.

    Deadline

    Contest will end a week from now so that gives you plenty of time to take a stab at it over the weekend. If I get something I am happy with earlier than that I will let you know.

    Payment
    PayPal (I am verified US person)
    $30 for the logo in a .psd format.
    MAKE SURE THIS IS ORIGINAL WORK!

    additional $20 - if you can provide vector version using perhaps Illustrator.
    (As long as it is scalable - it will be accepted)

    additional $20 for a solid forum avatar to match the site identity.
    It has to be slick and match the current background color theme.

    additional $50 for a big image (the size of the contents of the page) that can express the "soul" in an image in the middle. What I have drawn on a notepad.

    Yes, I am ok if you mix and match with other people's suggestion. E.g. you only created an Avatar. Ideally I would like to start with the logo and the splash only, the rest will become more apparent after we have some foundation to work with.

    I hope you find this contest enjoyable! It certainly seems very exciting, and there are 4 different ways you could win!

    Good Luck!

    Thanks for taking a stab at it.

    I expect a logo on the left of the text, perhaps a heart with a business tie in it. The text itself perhaps would be better if it is simple like the Microsoft logo - slightly thick and representative - either completely white, or solid white outline with transparent/dark fill. Shadow, or any blending effects would look good too I'm sure.

    Biz and Hobby could also be split, use your imagination, e.g.

    Biz
    Hobby

    (A heart could fit well there to the right of it - I made a mockery version myself but hey I suck as an artist)

    Not sure about the green/blue biz/hobby - it looks too much like any other web 2.0 logo. Almost as if it was auto generated.

    Hope that helps...

    @sikka2010:
    Too much red on there. Can you make the heart logo non symmetric? The tie should be hidden, perhaps you need some white (as an under shirt) and blue (as the suit color).

    @cvnb:
    The hat looks cool no question, but it obscures the Y letter too much. Also the font you chose is pretty hard to read. Look at the Microsoft logo for the font.

    @phoenix89:
    that guy looks cool. can you place him on top of the site to see how it would fit? Also can you may be dress him up a little? (Not sure if that's a good idea, but let's see what it looks like)

    @ing_pacz:
    I really like what you did here. Can you put it on top of the site image to see how it would fit?
    Also if possible can I see color variations?

    @jtoms:
    I'm not sure about the chair idea. However, looking at your avatar - I'd like to see something like it.

    To everyone: I would like to see some entries that use handshakes as well...

    I want the logo to be pure for the most part.

    For the most part it should look good when it is white on black.

    Here are some ideas: http://siahdesign.com/archives/448 for an inspiration

    @sarsh: I actually really like this one, I guess it is a good font selection...

    Can the letter i be something like this:

    [IMG]

    (It could also look like a guy with a tie)

    @sarsh11: Yes, I'm starting to like it. Can you put Biz on top of Hobby from this last revision? Also - do you think you could make that as an avatar?

    @pheonix89: This is the style I want to go with the entire site - dark background with white outlined icons, etc. If it is not too much work, can you try different versions for the guy in the middle?
    Can he have a smiley face and may be a belt?

    @pheonix89: Also want you to try the Biz on top of the Hobby - see if it could perhaps work out as an avatar
