Is #1 or #2 considered 3 way linking by search engines?? #1) www.SiteA.com -> www.SiteB.com -> www.Subdomain.SiteA.com #2) www.SiteA.com -> www.SiteB.com -> www.SiteA.com/Subdomain/ Please help as I am trying to set up a linking system between a couple of my websites and a new subdomain I want to create off one of the websites.
None of the above (although some could argue that #1 is 3-way, but it depends) 3 way linking would look like this: www.siteA.com -> www.siteB.com & www.siteC.com -> www.siteA.com where siteB and siteC have the same owner or are in the same ring of websites. The whole idea of the 3 way linking is to mask reciprocal links, but SEs have become pretty smart to figure it out so they are not as effective as they used to.
oh yeah I guess there really isnt a third site involved linking back to the first site. I was just wondering if linking to a subdomain is like considered linking back to the same domain as it got the link from. So I guess my question is, is this like a link exchange? or is it like linking to all separate domains? I just want to be able to link to all of my sites, without making any loops to hurt my site. I want to keep my links all one way, from site to site, but incorporate a couple sites into the linking. Thanks for your help on clarifying that.
subdomains are seen differently depending on the site and how they are structure. If there is no obvious connection (links from one to the other) between them they can be seen as different domains (see all the .wordpress.com or .blogspot.com blogs). However if they are part of the website structure (have direct links to each other) they are seen as the same website. Anyway reciprocal links will not hurt your website if you are careful and keep their number to a minimum. True, they will not be as helpful as one way link, but they will not hurt you
None is good. Why don't you get another domain instead of using a subdomain. If the new site becomes popular or you are tired of the site, you can sell the site and get your money. You cannot sell a subdomain. DiGreyer, can you prove that 3 way linking is not that effective? Is this your conclusion or your opinion?
@ coolsleek - the thing is that SE have become smarter, they don't just look at the domain name anymore, they check host IPs, look at the website associations and netwoeks. The idea of the 3 way links is to "fool" the Search Engine that it is a "one way" link. I am NOT saying it doesn't work, I am just saying that it is just harder to hide the fact that the link, in a way, is "reciprocal" . Do SEs count these links - sure they do, but in some cases they are devalueted. I can't exactly "prove" this but yes, I have seen this myself on a couple of sites I have worked and it is not just me. I have seen over 50 links devalueted by Google (not incluided in the "link:doaminname.com") even though the pages they were from are still in their Index. And before you ask - no, I haven't talked to Google about this, it is just my and other webmaster observations.
