Hello everyone! In my opinion, SEO is very interesting! I studied it for a while, read tons of e-books and tutorials etc. I still have 3 questions which are left unanswered. It would help me a lot if someone could answer them! I keep wondering: ------------------------------ 1) What is the best: generate backlinks for your mainpage (eg. www.cars.com), or buy/generate links with good anchors for subpages (eg. www.cars.com/buy_cars.html)? ------------------------------ 2) If you generate tons of backlinks for your main page and that page gets higher pageranks, will your other pages (subpages) their pagerank improve as well (automatically)? ------------------------------ 3) What is the best way to increase a pagerank fast and cheap: buying lots of (spunned) blogposts, comments and so on, or buying just a few backlinks from very high relevant pr sites? Thanks, any help is very appreciated!!
2.Yes link juice is passed on from your main page to your internal pages. Make sure you have good internal linkage thats easy to navigate.
With the internal passing of PR (aka "Link Juice") consider the fact that there are probably some pages that you don't want link juice passed to, such as your Privacy Policy page, Legal and Disclaimer and Contact Us form. Every useless page that gets juice means less juice for the pages you actually want to promote, so use no-follow links or other strategies in attempt to limit the flow to certain segments if your site. Also don't shoot all your backlinks at your site's homepage. Create deep links as well. You might want to research online regarding a good ratio of deep links to homepage backlinks. The deep links will help you get PR to more areas of your site and also can help you get more pages indexed.
3. You may improve you Page Rank, I think you know increasing Page Rank is not equivalent to improvement of traffic.
thanks everyone! You would be suprised how much I learned from reading your posts above! Fantastic :-D
Agreed with all of the above. Remember though that internal pages give you the opportunity to deploy some less competitive all in anchor text in your backlinks and gain some extra targeted traffic. For example if 1000 people a day are searching for "contact lenses" and 200 are searching for "toric lenses" my homepage will be tageted to the former but I will have an internal page for toric lenses that has backlinks with toric lenses in the anchor lext. I can win business from the latter sooner that the former. My split between home and internal is usually around 60:40
1) well you should backlink home page to get visitors to visit the site in general, but you should backlink to a particular sub page if there is a product that you desperately want to sell on that page. 2) It automatically uses the home page rank for all the sub pages as well. 3) comments and buying a few quality links.
