Wordpress is a fabulous software for blogging. But having downloaded wordpress and making the posts is just not enough. You have to customize it! You also have to think making money from your blog, optimizing it and make it user friendly. It is very important for a blog to get good search engine rankings. Here are the most important 3 customisations need to be done with your wordpress . 1. Install Adsense Plugin 2. Optimize Title Tags for SEO friendly pages 3. Summarize the Content in Frontpage Full Article: see here Hope my compilation helps
Nice Info, but for some (like me) , I am really not a big fan of adsense, so I would not include that as a "must do", although monetization is key. Too many people rely on adsense as the only source of income and I think that is a huge mistake made by some bloggers. Personally, I think the valuable real estate that you put adsense on is worth far more than what adsense pays. Since most sites on the web are affiliates of a larger site, and adsense is content based, why make pennies sending people to an affiliate site of products based on your content, when you can just send them direct though your own affiliate links. Adsense has it's security in that they don't have to buy for you to get paid, but I think adsense pay outs are ridiculously low for a new blog, and not worth the time and effort in waiting to build up traffic just to give it away to another site. I prefer to make all of my money in house pushing my own links, and getting the larger payout per sale. Also controlling what is on my site. Have you ever looked at your site, and seen an ad that you don't want on there, or wondered why PSA's are on there for 2 days. I can't take that.....especially for pennies. Also, if you build up regular , returning traffic, they will trust your product suggestions better, and it is easier to retain existing readers, than to constantly work at getting new ones, which are the ones that click on adsense ads anyway...new readers. If you have the traffic, you may as well sell them your own stuff, instead of running them away, and constantly looking for new traffic to click those ads. Your regular readers come for the content, and do not click strange ads everytime they visit. People are used to ignoring those now a days. You spend all that time building credibility, and traffic, so some one else can get the sale and you get pennies. JMO .
Monetizing in general should be one of the last steps. Develop your site first -- creating a recognizable brand (look and content) and strong SEO optimization should take priority.
I absolutely agree with this response. A successful website engages the reader so that the reader takes action, such as by bookmarking it to return later, etc. As a web site owner it is critical to gain trust from your visitors. That is the secret that so many people fail to do and so their site fails to make them any real money.
I agree with this post. For anyone new to wordpress that are trying to monetize their blog, bookmark this post and think twice about putting adsense on it. If you have the traffic, private ad sales are far more profitable than adsense IMO. Same can be said with affiliate links.
