Maybe a n00b question but my 3 month old forum has an Alexa ranking of 523,199 while a competing forum has dropped from 885,531 to 1,040,730. The strange thing is that my new forum has only 798 posts since october and the competing forum (of a popular event organizer) has 117.493 posts. It's also a lot busier and there should be lots more traffic from search engines. So how come that my new forum has a higher ranking? PS. my forum has had 211700 hits and 6799 unique visitors since october 1st.
That is the problem with Alexa. Wanna high score from alexa? As a webmaster, you can log on to your site daily with at least 3 keywords and visit your site daily, your rating will be high than your competitor.
you have more visitors with installed alexa toolbar or some SEO plug-ins for firefox which boost alexa rating.
