i spent 3 days trying to get a search engine to run on my site only to be beaten and cry my eyes out, why do they make things so hard for a girl to do? i found the search engine i want for my site, but i cant get it to work, and now i found out i have a trial one, and not the free one. lifes so sad when your beaten never mind, sammie will smile again one day
You mean you want a search function on your own site? Do you know what server side installs come with your hosting package? Can you run CGI scripts?
i can run everything i think, cgi and all the other stuff, yes. i have it running, it just wont search lol i am just not smart enough to figure it out i guess sammie xox
It's nothing to do with being smart. So long as you can run cgi stuff, one bit of kit you may like to try out is this: http://www.xav.com/scripts/search/ It's uber easy to install (It does it all for you), and also gives you some great options for tweaking the results returned. I had it running on my blog and never had any problems. It can be a bit tricky to get the results to look the way you want if you have a complicated design, (It takes a lot of messing about to get it perfect), but changing colours etc are easy enough. Hope it helps
it looks ok, but is the freeware one ok to use on a site? i dont have to much money to pay for the site and stuff
Yeah, freeware is fine... I thnk you have to leave a link to the site in the search results pages, but other than that, you can do what you like.
ok its auto-installing now. i'll how it goes in a few minutes, but thanx for the link and it is so much easier like this, no more tears. wish i knew this 5 days ago sammie xox
No Problem I you have any problems with it, just let me know - I played with it quite a bit when I had it installed so should be able to help....
ok its up running and working kinda lol, do you have msn or yahoo im? it would make thins so easy for me
Google has a fairly easy bit of code to add their web search to your site as well if you can't get the other search working fully. It will also do internal site searches if you configure it that way. I'm using the code supplied through AdSense for searching, but I know they also have a "free search" if you look at the google extras from google.com
thanx for your help guys, i'll see how i get on with the one SE told me about, its on and running on my site thanx to him, he's such a sweetie sammie xox
