3 day Google spike after crawl, then drop

    Hi,

I'm relatively new to SEO and google in particular so I'm wondering if I should be worried if after my newish site has been running at around 10% traffic from Google search for about 6 months, then suddenly jumps to 20% after my last crawl from Googlebot on Feb 7, stays there for 3 days, and has since fallen to about 5%. Is this indicative of a problem I should be concerned about, or can I expect that number to gradually increase back to the 20%? If Google giveth then taketh away, is it usually due to a penalty?

    Thanks,
    Helm

Are there any accepted theories about what's going on when this happens though? It's like after the latest crawl my SEO worked (all white hat basic stuff), my SERPs went up, which triggered an alarm in Mordor, or Mountain View or wherever, and I'm now I'm worse off than before. It's not a huge drop, but it's certainly discouraging and more than a little confusing.

    Hello...

Sounds more like a shift in the algo for the keywords being used and probably temporary issue
but i would keep back-link building with sites relevant to your niche and try advertisng on
relevant sites/forums/blogs that send quality traffic so that You dont only count on them to survive
in the event they ever wanted to cut your throat. (never all eggs in one basket)

    thx
