India continues to remain the fastest growing mobile markets in the world. The month of June saw as many as 3.2 million new GSM customers joining the already huge customer base.
The Cellular Operators’ Association said in a statement that this number has now taken the country’s GSM customer base to 78.5 million. The group represents the nine GSM mobile operators in the Indian market.
The total number of mobile users in the Indian market has now reached an estimated figure of 101.8 million. However, this is still a minor fraction of the total population of the country and this still leaves a lot of space for the mobile service providers in India.
The mobile usage charges in India are some of the lowest in the world and this has helped India become a hot market for mobile companies to invest in. Motorola and Nokia are investing heavily in India to cater to this growing number of mobile phone users and Reliance is now looking at expanding in the GSM market to add to their CDMA customers.
