I was looking at 3D software for characters for an online project I intend doing but the character lends itself more to 2D cartoon type of people so I was looking for suggestions of software that might be useful for creating these characters.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Thanks

If you have a lot of graphic design experience, you could try using: Adobe Illustrator.. However, you'de be creating characters completely.

Are you looking for software that basically makes it easier to create cartoon characters?

I want to create a cartoon character (eg: Like Mickey Mouse style) and use that character over and over again in different positions, situations, backgrounds and from different angles to create products in the form of print comics etc and also short video that I can use YouTube to promote it on.

I want it to look cartoon like but still be animated if possible rather than the animated characters that are seen on most of the videos.

I recommend using Autodesk Maya, you need to use toon shader to make it look like cell-shaded or cartoony when rendered. if you're on a budget use Blender instead, it's a free open source 3D content creation suite.

Using any of the 3D apps will probably be overkill, and will have a massive learning curve (unless you already know what you're doing).

Toon Boom is great for 2D.
FlipBook is also good. Just don't let their crappy site put you off.
