same here! had a site in yahoo dir in 2000 before it was paid but its removed now. think i have never seen a great amount of visiors from yahoo dir anyway, maybe something between 5-10/month. but at this time yahoo was much more a directory than it is right now: in 2000 they had all the mayor categories right on yahoo.com (almost same layout like all the free directories); right now the directory on yahoo is really hard to find if you start at www.yahoo.com and dont know the url. I guess only a really small percentage of the yahoo traffic will find and use the directory, so i wouldnt pay for it unless they bring the directory back to the front page again (very unlikely...)

Thats exactly it. Its the "potentail", but unfortunately, there is no way a directory, n o matter how good, will get many visitors your way. Nevertheless its an excellent directory thats considered an excellent link simply because it can be difficult to get into the directory in the first place.

Yup, me too. $299 for the review isn't good value for me, but I guess it depends on your niche.

    Agree.
If you have an advertising budget over $2000, I recommend it.

I don't understand this. I am listed in the Yahoo directory just by submitting, why are people paying to be listed?
This is not a charge from Yahoo, and I would have to think it is not supported by Yahoo, so what is going on here?
Wait, let me double check that.....
    Yep, there it is
So why would you give someone $300 for that?
    Am I missing something?

    same hmansfield.

I don't pay a dime for submitting to directories,etc... my theory is if you can't make money without money, don't bother making money with money.

Your site is not in the directory. If you look, you'll see:
at the top of the results page you referenced.

Remember that they are a authority and this price is for this.Of course if you have billions you can pay 299 for a year, otherwise nor.

I think that the price is ok, the yahoo directory is not comparable with the others web directories, the positive impact in the search results is a lot better (not only in the yahoo results), of course, you will not receive a lot of traffic from the directory, its an SEO improve.

Also in these times $300 is not a big amount for any serious "net business".

Oh OK I see. My bad. Oh well,
I'm really not all that crushed, and I am certainly not paying $300 to get listed in it.
    That is ridiculous!

If you're thinking about paying to get into Yahoo, you're better off first submitting your site to DMOZ, and then crossing your fingers that a certain type of editor gets back to you.

I guess the question you have to ask yourself is: Do I want to sit on page 5 with all the other pikers, or do I want to move my site up to the front page, like a real company.

If you want to wither away in obscurity, then join the ranks and submit to a bunch of $5.99 and free "directories". If you want to run with the big dogs, then step up, open your wallet, and do the needful.

If you want to be a "real" company, you'll need to act like one. If you want to come across to the world as some Mickey Mouse shop, then keep on surrounding yourself with pikers.

Class, like water, seeks it's own level...

Browsing the yahoo dir I have found something peculiar, in the category "Web directories", there are only 13 links, and one is: .comp-links .8m .com, very strange that these site be listed...

it's really sad that they have removed easy dir access from the front page. used to be a decent source of visitors!
