What can I say, I am still amazed. Just when I think submissions will slow, we broke 2000 late last night in just 74 days since announcing our directory, http://www.kingbloom.com on DP!

I've probably rejected about 200 or so. Keep em' coming!

Do you find that you get a lot of them like this?

    http:// www. kcertification . com/

I get 3-4 of these a day on mine. They all look identical to this, except for the topic. Most god awful spam sites.

    Hey Jeremy
I think there's something wrong with your modrewrite. Let's say if I'm under shopping category:
    http://www.kingbloom.com/34-kingbloom.html
I click next pages 1,2,3,4 and they take me back to the home page.
Can you check it? I don't think it can be just on my computer.
nice and clean directory, great job keeping it updated.

From what I hear, most free directory owners have too many submissions. Keep up the positive attitude.

No, I've not had problems with that. The problem I have is simple rules, like proper capitalization (which I DO NOT REJECT), I manually correct.

The ones I reject and have a lot of problems with are the ones that just submit directly to the directory at the root level, ie., do not choose a proper category.

Yeah, you are correct. We did the mod rewrite twice late yesterday and encountered a few problems. I think fixing one problem (ie., other ".html" files I have in the directory), may have now caused another problem.

Thank you for noticing. I',ll get this fixed straight away.

Thank you for the compliments as well!

I have all of those blocked in Kwik Goblin and manually move them if they fit (there are few that are truly that general)

On the Mod-ReWrite issue... We accidentally left a ".=" in where we really wanted a "=" . Should be good now.

Let me know if you see any other problems.

    Thanx again!

You are right! Since I hit page 1 on MSN for "link exchange" I am getting almost 100 daily submissions on my directory.

I feel like a DMOZ editor with my huge "pending approval" list. Had to start deleting sites that are submitted to the wrong category because I don't have time to move them around :D

Ouch. How hard is it to move sites in your script? I wrote mine from scratch so have no idea what other ones look like; for me all I have to do is change the selection in a drop down menu before I approve.

After the initial fun, most directory owners have trouble justifying a couple hours a day of their time for approving submissions, especially when it won't make much of a difference in their income.

Many free directory owners eventually lose interest and stop approving new entries.

Your lucky. Dmoz editors can't get off that easy. We had to search the directory and find the right category to send the site to. Just deleting submissions for reasons like that will get an editor booted.

Thats why ODP is so backed up...we have to fix the screwed up submisions and find the right homes for them.

I could understand the occasional mistake by submitters, but man, 80% of them just ignore the submition rules and submit sites to the first category they come to.

That is why I will NEVER build a directory of my own. Except for a small one relating to my site's topic and using it as a links resource for my visitors.

Yup. I also have an image site where people can upload their own images. I have many different categories covering all the necesary themes, but people just log in and send all their stuff to the first category on the list.

    Makes me so mad...
