first tip: layout Use your targeted keyword phrase: *In META keywords. It's not necessary for google, but a good habit. Keep your META keywords short (128 characters max, or 10). *In META description. Keep keyword close to the left but in a full sentence. *In the title at the far left but possibly not as the first word. *In the top portion of the page in the first sentence of first full bodied paragraph (plain text: no bold, no italic, no style). *In a H3 or larger heading. *In bold--second paragraph if possible and anywhere but the first usage on page *In italic-- anywhere but first usage. *In subscript-superscript. *In url (directory name, filename or domain name) do not duplicate the keyword in the url. *In an image filename used on the page. *In ALT tag of that previous image mentioned. *In the title attribute of that image. * In link text to another site. * In an internal links text. * In title attributes of all links targeted in and out of page. * In the file name of your external CSS (cascading style sheet). * In an inbound link on site (preferably from your homepage). * In an inbound link from offsite (if possible) * In a link to a site that has a pagerank of 8 or better. * Keep ratio of text to HTML very high. Text should out weigh HTML by significant amounts. * The traffic comes when you figure out that 1 refferal a day to 10 pages is better than 10 refferals a day to 1 page. * You should use as many as these tips as possible without over-doing it, otherwise if you do use all the tips for a single page, chances are it'll turn into just spider bait instead of unique content.
I consider this to be the most concise guide to SEOing I've ever read, even in this forum. With the exception of the second last paragraph: what do you mean by that (the referral thing) - I simply can't follow. Otherwise: congratulations. Hopefully, as few people as possible will follow your guidelines... Regards
Hi scylla - Can you elaborate further on some of these? Pertaining to the these 4 bullets...Why is the formatting and where the keyword goes so important. Does this hurt with search engines? Or is it more so that your website doesn't look spammy? Is this an outgoing link? Thanks
The original can be found here ~ http://www.searchengineworld.com/misc/guide.htm It's by Brett Tabke (The woner of WMW) and is generally regarded at the first step anyone should take on the road to SEO. http://www.searchengineworld.com/misc/guide.htm
Well, we all know about keyword stuffing & other black hat tricks used with search engines... However, search engines recognize proper keyword placement within a document along with added PR value that a proper bold, italic or underline tag to a keyword can give it. So following these simple optimization rules helps to keep your site from looking like it got keyword bombed (to the search engines eyes). His article and mine are totally different, just have a look for yourself. I needed to a topic name after all for this post. No, you will want a backlink from a site that ranks 8 or higher in a pagerank scale. If you can get one site to link to 5 documents on your site, pagerank is evenly distributed to those pages and the ones that they link to. Thats why it's better to have a few pages with high PR than just one page with extremely high PR.
Thanks, Scylla, for explanations. The problem with any considerations on the effects of high or not-so-high PR for backlinking pages is that (a) it will be difficult to estimate how many backlinks from pages with [PR-1] will be equivalent (regarding its effect on your own page) to one backlink from a page with [PR] and (b) whether it is more demanding to actually get this single one [PR]-link instead of N [PR-1]-links. As a matter of fact, usually you are glad to get a backlink at all !-) Best regards nevertheless
Why spend big bucks on SEO's when you have an article like that available? SEO's are a waste of time. You could get your site ranking high without help from SEO's. Sure, they will get you ranked for keywords no one searches but its you that will ultimately determine the success of your site.
Thank you its a good list. Only... is it easy to get a backlink from a PR8 Site? Very good Layout Keyword Advices, I have saved them to my disk. And Iam waiting for the other 25 Steps from you Thanks
thanks. this is much money! too much. Ok Iam waiting than for the other 25 tips an I will try and see. So go on scylla, I will save the text on my harddisk an work it out.
actually I gave 23 tips on layout. All those topics marked by a star are tips, so I only got 3 left to do. I was tired when I made the thread & made a typo while I was half awake. So anyways, that'll be 26 layout tips you. Oh and. no, the "K" stands for one thousand, hence 15,000. And what I was referring to was Unique hits per day. Good luck.
Noob, the vast majority of those techniques don't work anymore. This isn't 1996. And you spread a lot of mis information. A PR8 link doesn't guarantee you lots of traffic or good search engine placement. And it is very expensive. Perhaps you should actually learn about search engine optimization before you run your mouth.
