Hi everyone, My fairly new site has good SERP (position 5 for the main keyword), and google indicates that the global monthly search volume for the keyphrase is 250,000. So with SERP 5 and 250k searches you would expect at least a hundred or so visitors coming to my site via Google every day, but it only generates about 5 visitors a day. Am I wrong about what the Keyword Tool indicates, or what could be the problem? Any help welcome. Thanks, Jesper
It's not too uncommon. You actually will end up getting more click-through traffic from going after long tail keywords, such as phrases "something about my keyword" , "how to use my keyword" instead of just going for "keyword" itself. The top 3 positions as well as paid positions take over for the main keyword, but #5 should still get decent traffic. If the keyword can be localized (example: restaurant) , then google may end up showing local results to the users searching as well, which bumps you down even farther. You can use a service like hittail or just google analytics to identify other keywords being used to find your site, and then make some pages or blog posts targeting that long tail keyword as well. You'd be amazed at the amount of traffic you can get not even focusing on your "main" keyword. Hope this helps.
don't rely on google search tool. its not accurate at all. your keywords probably doesnt have 250k searches/month
Is it possible you are ranking at #5 for Google.yourcountry but are much lower for .com and other countries? Even so I would expect you to be getting more traffic than that. Also when you used the google keyword tool to check the number of searches per month was it on broad or exact? that can make a pretty big difference...
It may be possible that your site appears only for couple of minutes (hours) a day in the top positions?
1) First use adwords preview tool to find if your website is has good serps for your main keyword in Google.com from United states. 2) Next check Google trends to find out if your main keyword (for which u talked about serps) has good trends. I am sure with 250K searches per months and with 5th serp position for that keyword in google.com from united states you will not end up with 5 visitors a day. If you need more digging PM me the details. Sam
Make sure your meta description tag is written in such a way to encourage people to click on YOUR site - the description tag (and the title tag) are a bit like your shop window - if they don't appeal to people, they will go on to the next site.
The Google Keyword tool over estimates traffic volume. The Google keyword tool will show the volume for the most broad term and will distort numbers depending on keywords. For example if you search song lyrics - 6,120,000 Song lyrics would be the most common way people would type in the search here in the USA Now lets say we type things in backwards on Googles Keyword Tool, lyrics song 6,120,000 As can be clearly seen both of the numbers are identical. The problem is the research tool is a broad match of all terms. To find the true numbers for a search term you should select exact match. Here we find the real numbers most often, as noted in the example [song lyrics] 450,000 - 823,000 [lyrics song] 9,900 - 18,100 Now we see that song lyrics does not have 6,000,000+ searches in fact it does not pass 1,000,000. Lyrics song does not pass 20,000..... So as you can see keyword research done incorrectly will lead to wasted time and leave you wondering why things do not add up. Hope this helps!
