$250 Homepage Design Contest- Need PSD only - Ends in 7 days

Project Overview:
I'm looking to create a homepage design for a jewelry website. I want the website to look like a classy, sophisticated, affordable luxury type brand. Not too pretentious or fashionable like Tiffany, but more similar to bluenile.

There are not many design requirements except the following:
- Total size is 1400 x 1100 px (background image)
- Main website body size is 1000 x 1000
- Middle content area is 820 x 800
- Left hand nav is 180 px wide

http://www.glimmerrocks.com/ (I like the large center promo banner, it really stands out. I like their feedback tab, )
http://jamesallen.com/ (looks clean, but a bit too white. Website is unmemorable. I like the roll-over on the center banner. )
http://www.bluenile.com/ (I like the gradient background.)
http://www.novori.com/ (Fairly clean look. I don’t like their top banner though)

I have held several design contests and always picked a winner so I will likely pick a winner for this contest as well, but reserve the right not to if I don't like any submissions. There are a lot of talented designers on DP so I doubt this will be an issue.

Here's some quick feedback-

Colleen, I like some of the design elements you used including the thin border around the top buttons, gradients, rounder corners, and icons.

emzdesign, I like the main banner you made. It showcases the jewelry well and uses thumbnails well. I don't like the grayed out item boxes.

harizd, I like the post it note boxes that you designed. It helps highlight products and looks different from other sites without looking cheap. I don't really like the diagonal lines in the buttons on top.

Overall, it's a good start but so far, none of the designs have "wow"ed me yet. As of now, the contest is definitely up for grabs.

A few more things I'd like to see are use of curves or rounded corners in a classy way, so the site is not all rectangular boxes and buttons. Also, I'd like to see more icons used for cart, mail, specials, sale, diamonds, gift ideas, etc.

I'm looking forward to seeing revisions and new submissions. Good luck and thanks to all for participating.

 

Quick revision..removed diagonal lines, made it rounded corners and some icons as well. If you would like the navigation buttons to be rounded, il do that as well. Now moving to office, il revise it again when i get back based on ur feedback
