$25 to anyone who can fix this (email problem)

I run a dating site, but for some reason hotmail is rejecting certain emails.

When a user receives a message on my site, they get a notification by email to come check their message on the site. This part works, even with hotmail.

However, when a NEW user registers on the site with hotmail, they aren't
getting the confirmation email they would normally get, and as a result they can't join the site. Other email providers get this confirmation email, but not hotmail.

I think this has something to do with A Records/DNS Zone, or some setting in WHM. If you are able to fix this, I will forward $25 USD to your Paypal account.

    Please pm me.

It isn't going to their spam folder or inbox at all.

    The script is custom.

The strange part is that I recently transferred my site from another server. All emails went through to hotmail on the old server, even the confirmation email. Now on the new server, only specific emails are going through.

    Currently your only options are:

    1. Setting the '-f parameter':

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Email Options -> Enable "-f" Parameter -> Yes

    2. Switching to SMTP Email:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Email Options -> SMTP Email -> Yes

Then fill out the appropriate SMTP settings for your account and server.

FWIW hotmail doesn't have any problems with emails from this forum or my personal forums.

Can you give us a link to the site?

If possible, set the site up to use an SMTP server rather than sending direct using php mail. If the SMTP server still doesn't work, it's likely that Hotmail has the site listed in a spam database. In this case, try signing up for Google Apps then send the notification emails using Google's SMTP server.

It's a bit convoluted, but it should work.

    anyone?

e-ignite: I dont know how to do this, but it sounds like more to do than necessary.

Again, email was working before, just not after I transferred to the new server. And it's only specific site emails that are not going through.

Please pm me, anyone who is interested. I'm desperate to get this fixed.

It is a matter of dns, reverse dns and spf. You should have a reverse dns pointing to your email server yourip->yourhostname and some services like gmail and hotmail require spf (or proprietary solutions for microsoft: https://postmaster.live.com/snds/) to fully accept emails.

    Hi

Its appears that Hotmail has blocked your IP.

You can write to the nocmail@microsoft.com and request them to lift the block on you IP. Inform them that your site is a legitimate site and you are not involed in any Spamming activities.

    This should work for you...

digital2006, there are a lot of pre-build dating systems in the market. Do you mind to advise your site's url in pm? You can use "standard mail" as the "send mail by" option. Usually, specifying sendmail is the same thing, since most PHP mail servers use sendmail and this will work properly on the majority of web servers.

If it is only hotmail, not yahoo or any other similar emailers, then this is probably the most plausible solution.

But hotmail didn't block my ip, because specific emails from the site DO go through. And I checked blacklists and my ip isn't on them.

Your problem is a lot than it seems, SPF, DNS will only get you so far.

Hotmail has a very strange filter system, the best solution is to email them directly.
