An interesting article, this author hates a number of things about Google:

I disagree with a few of his points however, especially that he hates that they're testing new UIs. OF COURSE they're going to test new UIs, it's how things advance!

Yes, for sites that were already listed in ODP before they were crawled -- I have one like that. I think its database originated from ODP.

I know they do the description sometimes, if they feel the dmoz desc. is more relevant

I agree. I don't like made for Adsense sites with duplical content myself. The website should serve a function.

so have the majority of the people on this forum (including myself). And yes, most of those points are very true. I don't understand how you could argue otherwise

I still love the services that Google provides, regardless of these 25 items, and a good number of others that I could think of

most of the list is pretty weak and some of the actual reasons to hate google(#15) aren't really a google problem, but a search engine problem

Valid points, but, hate is such a strong word. What are our alternatives to all the things that google offers for free? My guess is old boy ran out of things to talk about, so bitching is good filler.

Not quite true. First, it depends on the specific search term used - Google will serve up sites that rank for that term and then try to provide a snippet that includes the search terms. They may retrieve that from the on-page content, from the title or page description, or from a DMOZ description. This doesn't affect (or has minimal effect on) how or whether your site ranks for the search term - only the displayed snippet.

I would argue otherwise. I don't think most of them are true. In fact, I think most of them are downright silly. Frankly, I was very surprised to see Danny Sullivan as the author of that piece - he must have been having a bad day.

    I must agree with Minstrel.

About ODP, yes, Google will serve you a title and snippet he thinks is more related to your search. In some querys you'll see the web's title and in others searches you'll seee ODP's titles and descriptions. If anyone doesn't believe me, pm and I'll show you this.

About the 25 reasons. I don't agree too much. These given 25 reasons are not very strong. I could say maybe more than 25 reasons I hate about Google, but I wouldn't use most of the given reasons.

I feel the need to defend myself here. When I say they're true, I mean that most of the statements are based on truth or fact. Whether or not it's true that we should hate each item I can argue neither for or against, it simply depends how much you're affected by it.

    Think about it:
-- Where are the related searches?: true
-- You don't offer easy access to all your tools: true, I have to bookmark & log into each one individually (and I DO hate that)
-- Google.com doesn't show the same results regardless of country: true, but it can be a good thing
-- You don't offer an RSS feed for Web search: true
-- You use Open Directory titles and descriptions: true, somewhat
-- Give us paid Web search support: true, it doesn't exist. whether or not that matters, that's another point
-- Self-serve AdSense creates too much junk: true, no doubt about it
    -- Blogger is free: true

OK, i'm done copying and pasting, but I think it's clear what I meant when I said that most of them are true...
