It should be 160 wide or a little more as long as it fits in the left column.
Length is optional, more important that it looks good.

Banner must fit the theme of the site and be stylish but not tacky. Animation is OK but not too much. Keep in mind this is an eating disorder site. People with eating disorders are often very ill and getting treatment may be the only thing that saves their lives. Ask any questions.

Marco it has too much info on it. Needs to be short and to the point. also don't need the girl in the background
GD too many fonts, word sizes and word colors in the top, makes it look awkward.
Killuahxh its too big.
