$25 Logo Contest For LDSFriends.com (48 Hours)

We are currently redesigning the entire website so please do not base your logo off of the current design.

I need a logo for a religious website (LDS/Mormon). It's important to note for your designs that Mormons do not use the Crucifixion (the Cross) in their religious imagery. So, any design with a cross in it will not be considered. Below are some more specs that will help you.

Name: LDS Friends
Slogan: "The LDS World Connected"
Graphic: You have a lot of freedom here. Currently there are two designs you can see. The original design of the website, dating back to 1999, can be found at LDSFriends.org (not the dot com). Obviously, we are looking for something better than this but the client would like to see some some logos using the turning world on the dot org. However, don't feel you have to use the world. As for the dot com there isn't anything we really want to use. What we are looking for is to have the logo really show the religion and also have a web 2.0 look and feel. Below are some images that depict the Mormon religion. The images are not mine and are used to give you ideas. I am open to you being creative on other possible ideas for images. Feel free to leave a comment here if you need further clarification on what images to use.

Size: This will be used on a website, so it will probably work best as a horizontal layout. However, I am not picky to the dimensions of the logo.
File: Winner must provide a vector or PSD file.

All questions and submissions must be submitted through the thread. I will not take any PM-ed designs or questions. This way I don't have to repeat myself and the general contest can benefit from your talent and insight.

@energycans: If it was LSD Friends I am sure we would get quite the psychedelic logo, but this site is definitely not geared to that demographic Ü

Hi and thanks for your invitation. However, I am afraid that it would be hard for me (or even us) to design a logo that best represents your site, especially when you said that we can't use 'cross' in our designs (as that would be the utmost priority for designers to use).

Based on the examples given, it is still unclear on how we could incorporate those images into our designs. Perhaps if you could give me us an example of a logo of your competitor site/similar site, we could at least brainstorm our mind to come up with a design for you.

@jokomamamita: Thank you for your honest feedback, and I like your suggestion about displaying competitors logos. I will see what I can find.

@zyndtel: Well done on incorporating the different things I shared. Just a few changes. First, I would only have the man blowing the trumpet on the book and not the temple on the other page (very creative by the way). Second, I am not a fan of the font and color for the "Friends" in LDS Friends. It's too soft. Hope this helps.

@renderwork: I really like this logo a lot. However, you have helped me see a big mistake I made. The temple I gave you to use is in San Diego, California. The Mormon headquarters is in Salt Lake City Utah. We should probably be using the Salt Lake City temple instead. Below is a picture for you to use. Also, there only should be one man blowing a trumpet, since it is quite symbolic in the Mormon religion. If you would change out the temple to the one shown below and change to one man blowing the temple I should be good. Again, I really like what you have done here. Let me know if you have any questions.

@zendtel: That looks much better. The last suggestion I have to offer is placing a border around the logo to help contain it. You can either do a rectangular border around the whole thing, or maybe put a circluar border around the book and then a rectangular border around the entire logo. That's my only suggestion. Everything else looks really good.

@renderwork: This looks really good. I have no other recommendations. I will send it over to the client and get her feedback but currently your logo is definitely a finalist.

Per jokomamamita's request below are some logos I found on the web that focus on LDS/Mormon websites. Honestly I think we can do a lot better, but hopefully it can stimulate some ideas. Let me know if you have any questions.
