I just herd the following which is similar to Dotsters free 500 domains a few weeks ago & Mydomain.com had a promotion like below last week:

Thanks for sharing with us, will be useful for some. Personally, I'm not gonna bother as only 25 domains per hour makes a very limited supply with how many people will be trying to get their free domain.

I remember back a few weeks ago when Dotster did the free 500 names for 1 hour their site totally jammed up & all the free coupons were taken within 15 minutes
